Recording Options Page is Driving me INSANE

Hello everyone,
I have a quick complaint about the default behavior and layout of the “Record Options” page.
First, why on earth is “Allow Partial Recordings” turned ON by default? Certainly, if you can’t get the whole episode or movie, you should want to be given the choice, but it should most assuredly not do this by default. I forgot to turn it off on one of my shows, and I do not want to miss the whole first round of Chopped like I just got.

Second, if you insist on keeping this the default behavior, why are you hiding it in advanced settings? This is a very basic setting which should be on the main page. Actually, I feel like the first 3 options in advanced should be in the basic view page-- I am almost always changing them to HD Only and with some shows I have existing episodes of I am checking the “Replace lower resolution Items” box.

Does anyone else use these as frequently as I have, and wish I didn’t have to go through an extra step each time clicking on the advanced button?

And finally, if you disagree with my rationale here, can we at least have the choice to change the “default” behavior so that it remembers my settings? ie. It will remember that I don’t want partial recordings after I change it once so that everything I schedule after won’t have it ticked. It remembered my recording location after I changed it once, so it could function similarly to that.

The choice of “Allow Partial Recordings” as well as “Replace lower resolution items” should be an Admin set default IMHO. Set this globally how you want it to work and then you can always override it on a per recording basis.

I too also have to remember to flip this off and have gotten burned as well by it.

I agree that the 1st three options as it stands now (with no defaults) should be on the main page. However if we have admin control to set these with a default they could stay on the advanced page since they would hardly need changing.

My 2 cents,
Carlo

Agreed with both points, let’s hope it gets implemented soon !

I just wanted to bump this because I really think this should be changed.

I fully agree with global settings should be up to the users. I have had my own issues with the partial recordings.

I have a total of 12 tuners (all HDHomeRuns) available to Plex and soon to be defunct WMC. I know I have tuners not in use and plex still doesn’t record my padding do to the “Allow partial recordings” that is checked on some recordings. In my opinion the dvr function should always use an open tuner even if this is checked and not cut a recording short. A recording should only be cut if all tuners are in use, then this is the rare situation that the priority order should be used by plex.

@jkloepping If you are sharing tuners with Plex and WMC you may very well run into issues. Plex assumes it has exclusive access to tuners. If Plex determines that it is going to record on a particular device and the device is busy recordings one show in WMC and one other in Plex the tuner will refuse the request by Plex to start a second recording. Plex does not currently look at other devices once the first device rejects the request. If you are truly sharing the devices between Plex and WMC I would suggest you remove a few from Plex and remove the ones Plex is configured with from WMC. This will help alleviate any tuner conflicts.
