Allow “watch together” to use sync’d local media.
Not sure if it can do that yet, but letting people pre-download the media for the movie night would lessen the load on the server a lot.

I’ve been looking for information regarding sync’d content and Watch Together. Is this already part of the feature?
Given scenarios where a movie night is planned ahead of time, it follows that all parties interested in watching on the agreed date could sync a full resolution copy ahead of time to give the primary server some slack during the actual streaming process.
There’s another thread that’s not specific to Watch Together but would accomplish the same thing. Has 15 votes, too.
I would be VERY interested in this.
Plex’ “Watch Together” has been a fantastic feature that works really smooth when watching with up to 4 other people, but with my specific server, the transcoding is too much for any bigger group. Any chance to have this picked up?
I agree with the idea that Watch Together would benefit from using local data (sync feature ahead of time) and allowing sync on setup boxes like AppleTV (which currently is not available.
I’m unable to use this feature with family members between UK and Japan due to the connection instability making any server sync impossible.
It looks like it’s been a while since this topic has seen some activity.
I think developing this feature would drastically improve user experience, especially for use-cases where a party of two or more users are frequently watching together episodes of a show.
By downloading the content in advance, both bandwidth and compute (if transcoding is happening) might avoid unnecessary bottlenecks.
As noted in our previous announcement, our existing Watch Together functionality will not be included in our new experience apps on launch, which are currently in preview and will be released broadly in the future.
As such, we’re closing related feature suggestions in order to give back those votes, so that you can vote for something else.
We do not preclude the possibility of offering similar functionality again in the future, as we also noted in our announcement. Should that happen, then feature suggestions like this one and others would certainly be considered during that development.
A new suggestion related to adding Watch Together to our new experience apps has already been raised and you’re welcome to comment or vote on that suggestion.
