Allowing friends to download their own subtitles

Hi Community,

I am new to Plex, I have searched and configured Plex to download subtitles in Spanish and English for all the content but for some reason these are not getting downloaded.

I would like to have all my media with these two set of subtitles. If this is not possible, then I would like that my friends who I invite to play stuff from my library are able to download automatically before playing the subtitle on the language of their choice.

Is either of these possible?

Thanks for your help!

Take a look at SubZero

Thanks a lot, one stupid question, how do I enter the path where I need to save the SubZero Plugin through the graphical interface of my NAS?

I don’t know which type of NAS you have, so I can’t point you to a more specific guide.

Hi there, thank you for your fast reply.

“Copy or move the channel bundle into the Plug-Ins folder on the computer running Plex Media Server” this is the problem I am currently having, I dont know how to get to the folder where the Plex Server is installed on my Synology NAS.

Is there any way (ideally without using Terminal) to reach to that folder where the app is installed? I dont seem to have any app on my DSM to allow me to browse other folders than the ones I have setup as shares.

Thanks for your help

Thanks a lot! I was able to install the plugin thanks to your help and I was able to sort of make it work.

I configured it so that the subtitle of every item I play is downloaded at the moment, but movies that I know should have a Spanish subtitle because they are very popular still dont have a subtitle avaialble.

Also, I think I configured a way so that the SRT is saved on the folder of the movie but I dont think this is happening, any tip where should I look for this?

Thanks again for your support

If you are using OpenSubtitles.org in Settings -> Server -> Agents, manually refresh metadata for each library after enabling/changing/removing OpenSubtitle support. This should then download/update/remove the subtitles. The changes begin immediately, but it does take awhile to fully populate all libraries.

Thanks for this tip. I had this agent enabled before installing SubZero but did nothing. Do you think now with SubZero I should expect it to work?

I still have quite some content without subtitles and they are popular videos which should have subs.

Thanks for your feedback

I’ve never used SubZero, so cannot comment on how it might interact with the OpenSubtitles agent.

The OpenSubtitles agent worked for me without any trouble. I did not have to do anything special to get it working. After enabling & performing a metadata refresh, the subtitles appeared like other external subtitles choices in the Plex client.

Note the subtitles are not downloaded into the same folder as the movie. Plex stores them somewhere else. Maybe where it stores cover art, etc.? I didn’t dig into things to find out.
