Hey everyone.
So I have been using plex for years and its worked great. But one thing that drives me NUTS is I dont know how to point plex to use the subtitles i download in the movie folder when i download the movie. I have tried to go under the ‘agents’ tab and make sure under ‘movies’ and ‘shows’ that ‘local media assets’ if first on the list, but it never works. even opensubtitles doesnt work. Funny thing is it DOES work when I use my android phone and try it, TVs which run plex on an updated Roku standalone box or built in app for the TV… weird.
I was wondering if there was a way to just simplifiy this whole process by having plex point to my NAS folder where the movie or show is located since i ALWAYS download the subtitles as well. The way i see it we can only use the streaming of subtitles option from opensubtitles.org on the ‘agents’ tab and thats it.
Full disclosure, i never need subtitles, but some parts in movies or shows where they start speaking spanish or whatever (Ozark comes to mind) I want to know what theyre saying
Generally, the Agents options in the server settings only apply to a number of legacy agents. If your library is configured to use Plex Movie or Plex TV Series agents, all that agent configuration is handled per library in that library’s Advanced tab. Usually there’s no library configuration needed to use locally available, external subtitle files – with those it’s only about proper file naming (see the External Subtitles section in the support article linked below):
Wow thanks a lot. just looked at that advanced tab under my movie library. didnt even know it existed! now i can change it to imdb instead of tomatoes…
ill check out that external subtitles section. i just always found it clunky on an otherwise nice gui. even if i selected subtitles on the fly when watching a movie, they never worked right, or took 10min to kick in later on in the movie.
my subtitles are all raw from the torrent. theyre all labeled 2_english.srt or english.srt , etc. theres no way in hell im relabeling all my subtitles like instructed above. lol. that would take forever…
oh well.
