I’ve setup my Plex and SubZero ages ago. I noticed that on video files with subtitles, that SubZero does download them (even though this option is off). And they are not placed alongside media (even thou this option is on).
I am trying to find and delete those downloaded subtitles, but it’s quite hard.
I was pointed to a folder but in Synology NAS/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Media/localhost/[…]/[yyyyyyy].bundle
There are 16 folders with only .bundle files. The same goes for /Metadata/Movies or /TV Shows.
I also found WebTools but that doesn’t seem to work anymore on the latest Plex Server.
Is there still a way to easily find and delete external subtitle files?
After retrying to install WebTools, that now works. It shows indeed an embedded subtitle and 2 downloaded versions (which are not alongside media). Double checking the SubZero settings there is a check next to “Sla ondertiteling naast de media bestanden op (in plaats van in de metadata)” which translates to: Save subtitles alongside media files (instead of metadata).
Searching the folder localhost is difficult, I search on a Mac (on my Synology) and it doesn’t search trough .bundle files/folders.
I saw this indeed. It’s quite some job to do this per episode (while there are 23 seasons). Isn’t there a quicker way to delete those subtitles?
I think of ditching SubZero and configuring Bazarr. Hopefully Bazarr doesn’t download subtitles if there are embedded ones. And that Bazarr does download them into the media folder as I ask him too.
It’s either Finder or Synology File Station. And File Station is more powerful then I thought! Searching right now
So, deleting those 4.600 (!) subtitles doesn’t affect the library information? For example: showing the subtitle in the menu while the file is gone? I can’t test it because the subtitles have random generated file names.
Okay. Then I think SubZero didn’t ignore my settings but downloaded Plex all those subtitles then… ?! I’ve got the same languages setup as in SubZero. So, yes. Plex/OpenSubtitles has done this.
And I assume that if Plex was first with a subtitle: SubZero didn’t bother anymore to download them, because there were subtitles (on disk from Plex or embedded).
Well, SubZero was configured correctly. Because it didn’t download subtitles for files with embedded subtitles (just like the settings were). But Plex’s OpenSubtitle agent did (because it doesn’t have those settings).
SubZero did download subtitles for a lot of movies, which are (again, like I set it up) along side the media files.
So I am quite sure that Plex itself is the bad guy here. And me too, because I thought I needed to enable the agent for the Plex Player to download the subtitles which it didn’t.
