Alpha Index in Music not working - getting worse

Server Version#: Version 1.19.5.3112
Player Version#:

Newest version - but was wrong in at least the previous version and may be getting worse. I don’t think it’s a database issue, but I will doublecheck. The problem is when using the vertical A-Z list on the left side when trying to got to Music with that letter. Z for ZZTop etc. For example I click L and it goes to C. T goes to F etc
I should add — this is on a Mac - newest version of OS and also Sorted by Album and then by Album Artist… I believe it works properly when sorting by Artist.

I just tried to reproduce this but failed…
I’m on macOS 10.15.6 with Plex Media Player 2.58.0 (server is 1.20.0).

  • I’ve opened a music library, switched it to Albums and sorted by Album Artist (which also seems to be the default order for this mode).
  • when navigating through the items in grid view (poster wall), the A-Z navigation highlights the correct letter for the selected album (grey highlight of the correct letter)
  • when I navigate with the A-Z list, Plex jumps to the correct section… the album artists of that letter start in the 2nd line of albums visible; when I click “left”, Plex will jump right to the first album of an album artist for that letter.

The alphabet index seems to work for me when the library is sorted by album artist, album title (no alphabet index for the other orders).

When I’m using list view, it seems Plex will move the list so the 1st album is displayed in the middle of the screen (again… clicking left from the index will jump to the 1st album for that letter)

When using Plex for Mac, it appears the app will scroll so the 1st match is in the first line of visible posters.

Which exact version of the app are you using when you experience this behavior?

Sorry it’s taken so long for me to respond. The Version is 1.19.5.3112. I am on a Mac 10.15.5 using Chrome… I’ve tried in Safari also. I am not sure Plex Media Player version is or where to find it. I don’t know what else I can add. The problem still exists for me. For example if I click the “L” I get a list (grid view) that starts with C… and not Ca … like Cars, but Chubby Checker. Selecting “R” shows items beginning with “D”… I’ve tried rebuilding Database and Bundles.

Oh… you’re using the browser.
I was going by the tag you had assigned.

Anyway… I’ve just tried to reproduce this. All I can tell it it’s working 100% as expected for me using the hosted or bundled versions of Plex Web in Safari and Chrome.

Can you double-check if you have some “bad apples” in your library where those albums / artists have a messed up “sort title” (e.g. “Chubby Checker” having a sort name that starts with R)?!?

Hi
Well I downloaded the Plex player to my mac and had the same issue. I Refreshed MetaData (just because)… that took awhile since I have over 7000 Albums… didn’t help. I didn’t notice before but now I can tell that by clicking the next letter in the alpha list i get an increment of the previous screen. B is just a continuation of what I got with A, so W shows items beginning with F. I think my only choice is to to go into file system and remove everything and then slowly add it back… but not looking forward to that

I support sfall, I have the same problem within the browser and the app.

OS X 10.15.6
PMS Version 1.19.5.3112
PLEX App Version 1.13.0.1275-bbd8d37b;
PLEX Web Version 4.39.1

The problem exists since serveral months, I have created a new library on another MAC - same problem here.

Thanks for responding grappina. I was just trying to figure out how I could rebuild my library, something I was not looking forward to at all, so your response saved me from doing that. Will have to see if others also have the same issue and whether it will be addressed in a new version.

Thanks again for responding and confirming that the problem does indeed exist. It occurred to me that the problem may (or may not) be associated with the number of albums in the library. I have 7000+ albums. what is the number of albums in your library?
Thanks

Hi sfall

I have > 6’000 albums in my library. I hope PLEX will respond and fix that big bug soon.

It seems to be fixed with PMS version 1.20.1.3252.

THX

Yes … just updated… problem is fixed.
