Thank you I’ll give it a go
This is a very useful and flexible feature. Anyone who doesn’t understand why it should be implemented can ask themselves why external subtitles are implemented.
As for my own use case, it’s 4K bluray copies on network storage that I’d like to add 3rd party commentary to (similar to Rifftrax mentioned above). It’s not a part of the original movie release and doesn’t belong inside that file, and if I do add it anyway it means remuxing 60 GB over my home network - for every movie and every commentary track.
still waiting
+1, would be really happy if this feature would be added.
+1 here as well
+1, Please add this feature. I was so sure this existed on Plex already! I was shocked when I needed it to find it doesn’t exist.
+1 this is a much needed feature!
+1 Would be very appreciated!

Also keen to see this feature added…
Got many videos with DTS sound, but unfortunately my LG TV doesn’t support DTS. On-the-fly encoding is so stressful for my Plex servers old hardware. I’d like to keep those videofiles unchanged and add external converted audio tracks.
+1
Please add this, will help me save A LOT of manual muxing time for dubbed audio.

I don’t have the equipment readily available to remux dozens of shows to include the audio files. Would love the convenience of just including the separate audio files. If syncing is the problem, if you at least implement it in a rough “experimental” form that would be fine by me and also demonstrate to others if it’s worth the effort to improve it or not.
Please devs…we spend a lot of time remuxing audio files in mkvs because we want to keep using Plex. Many other players support this…
My use case is a big torrent archive, where (not by my choice) external sound tracks live as ac3 files. Can’t use that with Plex, apparently, which is a big bummer for me. Would love a solution that does not require creating another video file next to an existing one.
I really wish this was implemented already.
Would save me a lot of time.
EDIT:
This feature has been added to Jellyfin…
Would love to see this implemented!
Bumping, still waiting for this feature to be implemented ![]()
Coming up on 10 years for this request. also im a huge +1 to this feature. EAC3 transcoding is sound crap on my sonos playbar with constant crackling and pops
Bumping this so it won’t get closed
feature suggestion threads aren’t automatically closed… so there’s no need to bump them.
10 years later, still nothing? ![]()
