Always seeing "Restore Default Home Screen" when switching users

Server Version#: 1.21.3.4015
Player Version#: 7.12
iOS Version#: 14.4

To remove the extra “playlist” entry, I recently re-installed the Plex client on both my iPhone 8 and iPad 9.7" and, even with the extra playlist now removed, I noticed a really odd behaviour.

During the install and setup, I chose to set the home page to be automatically managed. Though this worked whenever I would switch users or close, re-open and choose another user, there was a long delay which showed the previous user’s home page (not ideal cause it does kind of defeat the purpose of user isolation).

So I decided to go back to manually manage the home page. The hubs wouldn’t show properly at first but I then went and did a Restore Defaults workflow, selected the sources and all of this worked.

Unfortunately, now whenever I switch users I am prompted to Restore Default Home Screen ever single time.

  • Going back to automatic corrects the issue but then I am back to the user switching visibility issues :frowning:
  • uninstall, reinstall, remove from the server’s authorized devices, and going back through the setup on the client does not correct the issue
  • during the troubleshooting, setting to manual home page does not show the hubs correctly but switching does not give an issue
  • in order to get the hubs back when selecting manual home page management, I went through the process of Restore Defaults…this does bring back the hubs as expected but then the switching/loading of different users shows the Restore page
    – this leads me to believe that somehow the Restore Defaults workflow has either not been persisted and/or is the cause of this whole thing (again, only in the manual management workflow)

Has anyone with home users seen this behaviour? If so, any suggestioned (other than “just use automatic management of the home page” :stuck_out_tongue: )

Note:
I suspect this is a client issue b/c I did roll back my server to a few versions back but saw the same issue.

One other thing to note…

I’m not sure if this is just a standard screen but when doing the Restore Defaults workflow, the initial screen states “We noticed you have more than on Plex server available to you” even though when I click the drop down there is only one. Also, my server only shows one in the settings screens.

There’s been a lot of issues and bugs lately with iOS and Apple TV, especially with the Hubs.

So a little progress but the reset is not fixed…

Today I applied

When I changed my hubs to use manual now the original settings for my hubs (which were set via automatic) no longer disappear and I don’t have to perform a reset to get them back.

Now that everything is back to manual I also am noticing that there is no longer a delay when switching users. What happens now is that when switching there are empty hub placeholders for the selected user and then they fill in when ready.

I suspect that the algorithm used to do automatic (i.e. checking the pinned hubs, the order of them, whatever else it is checking, etc) is taking time and the switch does not happen until it finishes so it just sits on the previous user screen with a spinner.

I also confirmed that if I do select to reset the hubs when in manual mode, there is still the original issue of the reset always being asked every time a user is selected/switched.
