After scratching my head on failed playback randomness on my content… I was looking through the forums and found that people had issues with H264 etc with the cube.
Last night, went to start to continue a movie I was watching and it failed… no longer what movie I picked it failed from there on.
I then went into settings and set it to no longer pass through using HDMI and viola!
all movies play fine…
NOTE: THis works fine on Cube 1st Gen and all Fire TV 4k sticks?!?!
I am experiencing a related issue. In order to get surround sound, on the Fire TV Stick Lite I have to enable Dolby Digital Plus passthrough. Anything else just gives me stereo. In HBO Max and Disney Plus, I get Dolby surround. On the Apple TV app, I get no sound at all!
In Plex, I have to enable passthrough to get surround sound. However, for files with AC3 mono or AC3 stereo, I get this playback error and the file won’t play at all. However, for AAC mono and AAC stereo, passthrough works and I can play the file.
I don’t know why AC3 mono or AC3 stereo files would not work, but AAC would, and AC3 5.1 and E-AC3 5.1 also work. It seems AC3 mono and AC3 stereo should be able to play.
You by chance do not use a optical cable connection do you?
I have tried both plugging the Fire TV Stick directly to the TV and running an optical cable to the A/V receiver, and also plugging the Fire TV Stick directly to the receiver via HDMI. The results are the same for me.
I also found out that E-AC3 stereo won’t play. E-AC3 5.1 or AC3 5.1 pass through okay.
The problem seems to be with devices that only do passthrough and don’t have the Dolby codecs. I tried the Fire TV Stick 3rd Gen and Plex plays everything as expected.
