Server Version#: 4.12.3
Player Version#: 7.28.0.15501
Just reinstalled PLEX on my Amazon FireStick because the library wasn’t updating (displaying movies that had been removed from the server). After the reinstall, the library shows up accurate, but the streaming quality is absolute crap. Don’t know what special setting I reset, but it’s unwatchable. When streaming from my laptop, it looks great. So that narrows the problem to the Firestick. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
The quality setting may have reverted to something other than Original
The H264 Level may have reverted back to 1.0 - should be 4.1 to 5.0
Content may be interlaced - ALL interlaced content is now transcoded
or
Any number of other settings may have reverted - most conditions are able to be discovered with the use of:
Plex App Settings: Disable New Player
Plex App Settings: Display Information
Now when you bring up the OSD - Display Information will tell you:
Direct Play or Transcoding and if so - the reason.
What’s the reason?
I don’t have interlaced movies
What’s the reason?
Looks like you got “The Bug”.
The work-arounds won’t work for you - unfortunately.
Any idea why the devs aren’t fixing this bug?
I’m a user - like you.
I had a crystal ball, but it rolled off the coffee table and broke.
Sorry, my powers are gone.
I didn’t know if you personally knew any of the devs.
I know they’ll ban me for year if I misbehave.
That’s about as far as our deep friendship goes…

those are rookie numbers!
So far, 7.29.1 has fixed this for me.
