Amazon fire TV shows content 'pixelated' but sound is find

Server Version#:
Player Version#: 7.29.2.16071

So our fire stick recently died and was replaced by Amazon. I’ve installed plex and linked my account. However when I play a show or film the content shows up in large “pixels”, of centre and colour distorted. Kind of like a bad VHS tape (if you’re old enough) and I’ve tried upping and lowering the quality of the playback to no avail. The sound is perfect and was working perfectly on the other fire stick.

I’m not techy so any help would be appreciated and please use small words and instructions

Are you playing content locally from your own server, or remotely from someone else’s?
Might check the playback quality settings and make sure they did not default to some really low setting on the new app install.

I’ve found this problem in the Firestick is often caused by the Maximum H264 setting - set it higher, or disable it, either that or disable the “new player”

The latest version just released apparently fixes this but Amazon are about 2 versions behind in updates most of the time

Where is this setting found?

I’m streaming from someone else’s server. I’ve tried adjusting the play back settings but it didn’t help.

They are both on the Advanced row of the Settings page (Sidebar > your user avatar > Settings)

“Maximum H264 Video Level” and “Enable New Video Player”
