Hello,
I am using my Desktop PC to run Plex Media Server and xTeVe so that I can use Plex to stream live TV using IPTV service.
The issue I am having is that whenever I stream some live TV using the Amazon FireTV Stick, the video pixelates periodically. The video quality pulses and becomes pixelated every couple seconds.
I am trying to figure out what the root cause of the issue is. My two guesses as to the root cause are either,
-
The hardware limitations of the Amazon FireTV Stick
-
The bandwidth limitations of my internet connection
To try and narrow things down a did a few different tests.
The first test was to simply connect my laptop PC to the same WiFi network as the Amazon FireTV Stick and use the Plex Web application to view the same stream. When I do this, the live TV streams just fine and there are no issues.
One thing I noticed when comparing the Amazon FireTV Stick and my laptop PC is that the average bandwidth shown on the Plex Media Server Dashboard is different. When using the Amazon FireTV Stick I observe an average bandwidth of 1 Mbps, but when using my laptop PC I observe an average bandwidth of 3Mbps. Any idea what could be the reason for this difference in bandwidth?
The second test was to simply try using the Amazon FireTV Stick at a friends place with a much better internet connection. In this scenario the Amazon FireTV Stick was able to the live TV without any pixelating issues. Furthermore, when I observe the average bandwidth shown on the Plex Media Server Dashboard in this scenario, it shows an average bandwidth of 8 Mbps.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what the issue could be? Are there any settings within the Plex Media Server or the Plex Client that I should check? Any ideas why the average bandwidth when using the Amazon FireTV Stick less when compared with my laptop PC?
Thanks for all your help!
