Fire TV and PS4 issues

Server Version#: latest debian linux
Player Version#: latest from amazon app store

I can use live tv and dvr everywhere just fine except for on my fire tv and ps4. Ive used the 5ghz network and get over 200mbps but it consrantly freezes, tried original qualities and also tried at 480p and it still does it. Some nights i can’t even stream local content it gives me connection issues. I use a gigabit connection to my router, it honestly works better outside my home on mobile devices…

There is a problem with Plex’s Fire TV app, it’s very limited in what formats it can play. I have been able to get it to force a lower quality transcode that’s playable. Have you changed the Mbps to 2 or 3 and turned OFF play smaller videos at original quality in the settings of your fire tv app.

Yes some work fine when i switch to 480 or 320p and switch back to original or vice versa. I’m going to try a 2gbps powerline adaptor in a day to do ethernet in hopes that that helps provide a more reliable connection.

Have you monitored the server while playing.
It’s most likely a direct play problem(client transcode), rather than a bandwith problem. Plex has been ignoring bandwith limits being set, and direct plays some channels. It wont matter with some channels because they are in client friendly format(Firestick), while other channels are not. The temporary fix is to force the transcode.
Try playing a problem channel while monitoring the server to see if it is direct playing, regardless of what your bandwith limit is.

To view while playing go to server, log into plex, then: home>more>“three dots to right of server”>manage server>server settings>dashboard.
