AMD Ryzen APU HW Transcoding

Question for anyone that has a Plex Server running AMD Ryzen APU (2200g or 2400g).

I am starting to get to a point where I need a dedicated Server for plex and stop using my gaming pc as a plex server. I want to keep it low power usage since its on 24/7.

My question is: to omit the cost of a nvidia card, I was thinking of getting whatever the newer Ryzen 3000 series APU (65w) and no dedicated gfx card so save power/money. My understanding though is that AMD isnt really officially supported for HW transcoding. I have seen some forum posts regarding this, but information is very minimal. So what is really the deal with this ?

anyone with a 2200g or 2400g can you please provide me some details ? For example, systems specs and then how many streams you can get transcoding lets say from 4k/high bitrate 1080 down to lets say 8mb 1080p setting and if its doing hw transcoding?

If it cant get atleast 4-5 transcodes down to 8mb 1080, then maybe im better off with a ryzen 3/5 (non-apu. probably cant get atleast 3-4 on its own) and a cheap 1050 (which can handle 2 streams on its own) and later down the road get a p2000 (which I guess can get like 10-15 transcodes but costs alot at the moment) ?

I have the 2400G. It transcodes faster using the CPU rather than “hardware accelerated.” Plex says they are using generic code for AMD and it just doesn’t seem to do that well. Perhaps that will change, but I wouldn’t hold your breath. The good news is that the 2400G does do very will without the hardware acceleration.
