Amlogic S905X3 Android player plays none of my movies

I am buying new Android TV boxes from AliExpress all the time.
Other people often ask me about one and then I sell mine after I bought a new one.

Up until now I have not found 1 device that is buggy in some area. They work, but there are always some glitches. Recently I bought one which promises the most potential and is sold as an 8K device (yes, I know… please don’t go there!). It’s this one: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000667979202.html

It has an Amlogic S905X3.
CPU:Amlogic S905X3 64-bit quad core ARM® Cortex™ A55CPU
GPU:G31™ MP2 GPU processor

Where the other devices sometimes have only glitches like audio stopping sometimes or skipping a few seconds, this device outright doesn’t play any videos in Plex.

It comes with a message that I should restart the client and also the server.
Very strange.
It doesn’t even work locally when it’s on the same LAN as the server.

Logs help

It seriously looks like @frater has the same issue has everyone like myself and my remote users that use Android over WiFi… Plex say it’s a “Rebinding issue” but it’s hit a lot of people to be a rebinding issue… I seriously think that it’s a regression in the new player!! I’ve submitted logs twice now and now answer from anyone… It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… no sorry that’s wrong… it’s a joke!!

I’ve even got a new Router and done everything in my power and IT Tech skills to see if I can fix this, especially as I run Ubuntu 18.04LTS as my server, but it doesn’t allow Android to play certain files unless on 4G/Cellular Data… I think the issue is in the Player/Transcoding… but hey I’m just a Plex user!!

Dave

Maybe, maybe not. Without log one can only guess what is going on.

Have you tried the test build that is around this forum?

Yeah tried it and failed on the same films and TV shows as the current version… As I said I’ve put logs in on another thread and no answers from anyone…

Dave

@Coxeroni & @frater
I’ve got it working!! Turn off secure connections in PMS settings and Android player now sings on every video, even the ones that wouldn’t play on WiFi before… It’s not a rebinding issue at all, it’s a secure login issue on the Server… after I purchased a new router too… Maybe Plex should pay up for my money I’ve lost???

Dave

Absolutely. How about a new car on top?

The S905X3 device is at a place where I haven’t been the last week, so I could not test this.
I can confirm that content starts to play if I turn off secure connections on the server.
It’s not a solution however as I don’t want this.

Now it’s working I notice another thing.
It’s not giving me audio at all on content that’s AC3

These are the problems with the S905X3, but with my other players it’s not that much better. Sometimes the players skips a few seconds and it also loses audio a lot while playing. Typically 2 to 4 times and this is never at the same spot. I need to stop the video and start it again to get sound back.

That erratic behaviour started more than a half year ago. I have a Plex player in my old Samsung SmartTV (Samsung Smarthub, not Tizen). Besides needing to choose “transcoding” on each flick it has none of these problems. I switched to using Android boxes because they respond faster and have a better interface.
