Since yesterday morning when I upgraded my Xiaomi Mi Box 4 to AndroidTV 9 (Kernel 4.9.113) I haven’t been able to play anything in Plex.
Live TV stops and is stuck at the still image after a few seconds and movies and other videos simply won’t start. It says that connection is lost (For the videos), but that’s not true, today I also bought a USB adapter to try cabled network, same problem and it’s connected to the same network as the server in the same router, so it can’t be due to the network.
Server Version#: 1.18.4.2171
Player Version#: 7.26.0.14578
Same issue. The only way I got it to work is to, when playing something, go to settings, force a transcode to “maximum quality”. This should get your media started, then go again in settings and put it back to direct play, then it will play fine.
For me (live tv) it seems the transcode is ignored as it’s always goes back to Play Original, however it does start the video again, but I have to do it twice per minute.
Unfortunately, if you update the app, it will likely re-enable so you’ll have to disable it again if you have issues. The good news is you know how to easily find it to fix Plex Android TV playback issues. After you’ve disabled it, the first time you go to play a video, you will get a popup asking if you want to enable it. Obviously, you don’t want to so select that option and you’ll be on your way.
Yeah the “work-around” works, however I am hoping for an update that will fix this problem since I am also experiencing a problem with the old player like audio suddenly dropping having to restart the video and unable to scroll through the movie. I only commented so that this problem would be fix as soon as possible because its a major issue as to not be able to play videos in a video oriented platform.
