Player Version#: “New Experience”
Just wanted to attempt to understand the vehement hatred of the new GUI experience for Plex player apps. Most people are not detailing their issues, in particular with the menu/navigation adjustment. I am confused about what people are mad about.
When I open the Roku app, I then need to press Up on the remote one time to highlight “HOME” at the top of the Roku player app. This is arguably unnecessary as opening the app already gets you to the HOME screen. But things get better right away…
Then one presses RIGHT one time on the remote and the menu to navigate libraries opens. At this point, the new experience menu provides for easier navigation IMO. Why do I say that? One reason is that the new UI provides ONE navigation menu while the old UI’s menu is split between elements on the left side (libraries) and elements on the top of the screen (Recommended, Browse, Collections…). A fan of the old GUI needs to explain why the split menu is better than the merged menu.
In other words, the old experience requires navigation to reach a library, then navigation to reach the library view you desire, in two different places within the GUI. The new experience combines those navigation elements. That is an improvement. If you disagree, why?
Highlight a media item on your Plex client then press “Back” or “Menu” on your remote. Do you know, with the old experience, where you will end up? Top menu? Side menu? For many, this is unclear. In fact, sometimes this action will move you to the top menu, and sometimes to the side menu. This is not ideal and was fixed in the new experience, where one can only end up in the only navigation menu that exists.
Just a few examples of why the vehemence against the new UI seems confused. I’d love to hear some detail if anyone has a fundamental issue with the menu navigation elements in particular. How is the old menu better than the new menu? In what way?
