nice find but remuxing to m4v isn;t an option for me. most of my files are mkvs..hopefully a fix soon. missing the last few minutes of a show is really frustrating
ALL of my files were mkvs with h264 video and most had ac3 5.1 audio tracks, remuxing those is painless as all it ends up being is a container format change not actually transcoding them! On top of that there is an awesome little project on github that can do it automatically for you (using ffmpeg) https://github.com/mdhiggins/sickbeard_mp4_automator it will remux files automatically when downloaded if using sickbeard/couchpotato/sab and the icing on the cake is it can scan over all files already in your library automatically remuxing them and tag them with metadata from tvdb and imdb.
I kind of agree with the idea that remuxing shouldn't be the solution. I thought that the whole point of Plex was so that you wouldn't have to do that.
I've been having the same issues here. Was figuring that a fix was only a matter of time...I can't imagine that MKV videos with DD sound are fairly common....
I have this problem off and on as well with mkv files fwiw....disabling DD does fix it as mentioned. I suppose I'll just disabled it when needed, watch the end, then re-enable after. Easier than remuxing everything since it's a case by case basis.....
Edit: updated my server to 0.9.8.12 and everything works as expected now. Might be fixed in last public build for all I know (I was running an older version)...
Dragging up an old topic here, but I'm getting this issue with a fresh install of PlexConnect from GitHub (pulled last night, 23/04) on my aTV3. If I play the whole file, then the last few seconds throws up the error, but if I then go back in to the episode and ffwd to the end, I can watch it without any problem. There doesn't seem to be any error in the log files (I will bump the logging up from normal though to make sure) and, if it has any bearing, I'm running PlexConnect as a launch daemon on 10.9.2 with Server installed. PMS is 0.9.9.8.436.
I have a few theories as to what the cause might be. One is just that it's a small bug when the file is marked as watched (will try on previously watched episodes to rule this out). Two is that the buffer is cut off too early and so the stream fails (which is why ffwd-ing to the end of an episode allows it to play right to the very end as the buffer is still active). Third is that it might have something to do with the Trakt.tv scrobbler.
Okay well I'm doubting whether it is the Trakt scrobbler as I've just watched two episodes with no issue without changing anything PMS side. Both episodes were mp4/h264 and the last show I watched I noticed the problem on was avi/mpeg4 (not mpeg2, my bad) so I'll try another file of that type to see.
Of course, I'm running a fresh PlexConnect so maybe settings were interfering? I'll report back as soon as I know.
EDIT: Okay, just hit the problem again with another avi/mpeg4 episode. No changes to either PMS or PlexConnect from the mp4/h264 episode I viewed prior to it. As I mentioned, PlexConnect is a fresh install so I guess it's not settings. Going to try updating to PMS 0.9.9.10 and test again, as well as enable error logging (which I stupidly disabled earlier).
I started having this issue too about a month ago, give or take. the last 10 seconds on most files won'y play, however, if i reopen and fast forward, it works fine.
Glad I’m not the only one with this issue. I have this happen on a nightly basis episodes cutting off just before the end & displaying this error. All of mine are just standard h.264 scene releases & no transcoding on Plex media server. I just live with it as its not s deal breaker for me just frustrating when you miss an important end bit
Can on of you try jumping back 10 commits at a time to find what commit broke it (I have never seen this myself)?
It would help us fix it :)
Great Idea f00b4r,
for me its gotten to the stage where it is annoying, mainly when a show has a cliff hanger right at the end & it cuts it off, then you have to replay and fast forward to the end just t watch the last 15 seconds,
Could it also be a change on the PMS end?
I'm just about to head out on holidays, if this isnt sorted when I get back i'll try your approach to see if its a PlexConnect issue
I think it would help identify if it is a PlexConnect issue and if so what code changes bought it about. If it gets rid of PlexConnect as an issue after jumping back a few times then I would try doing the same with the PMS install as that is another likely suspect where changes will have occurred.
TV section Watched two H.264 Scene releases fine, i.e. takes me back to the Pre-play screen when finished. Then watched an older Xvid and it had the error message
right at the end.
I am going to keep rolling back and keeping notes on which files and formats i'm having issues with until this is resolved.
If anyone one else can provide any info (e.g. file format and if it was a transcode or not etc) this could help.
