Only way I can get my stuff to play on any Android device is by using the old player, still no fix for this?

This has gone on for too long. Someone start a class action lawsuit.

They won’t.

This issue should of been resolved in v7.30 of Plex for Android which is currently in beta, you can sideload the build from: Release Announcements - Android TV beta or join our beta to access the build via Google Play.

If your still having problems in the new player, would you be able to grab the client logs and I will take a look. Information about grabbing the logs is available here; https://support.plex.tv/articles/201573117-android-android-tv-fire-tv-logs/

@Rush68 please take logs like i did
More logs. More Chance to get a fix

Also the others here. Please take logs

I got the Beta version 7.30.0.16218. But issue is still there.logging.txt (1.1 MB)

Error happens around timestamp: 03-17 15:33:00.421 . This is preventing myself and others from playing media with 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound outside of AC3 or stereo mixes.

Can confirm, same here.

@rtmax It’s an issue with the audio tracks. Plex introduced a bug that makes the app stall/crash when playing media with certain surround sound audio tracks. You’ll find switching to stereo, or AC3 tracks is a work around. The reason your browser, iPad, and phone work is because they aren’t handling surround sound audio tracks! The issue shows up on TV clients like Roku, Firestick, AFTV Cube, and Android TV because they handle surround sound, where in lies the bug!

Update: It appears the common denominator is the new player. The bug is isolated there.

@jjayguy23 do you happen to have Refresh Rate Switching enabled? Can you try disabling and see if the issue goes away?

Was never enabled. Problem still exists.

I’m having this issue with Android phone, shield tv, and fire stick. Disabling new player fixes on all of them. Beta on phone hasn’t fixed the problem either. So far I’ve only noticed it with live TV.

Based on this recent reports it seems like there’s another issue unrelated to the one that was fixed before!

@dave11 could you please confirm you’re issue is also only experienced with surround sound? If possible also upload recent logs!

Thanks

Just adding fuel to the fire. My AFTV Cube is seeing the same issues posted here. It is currently on the latest version of the Plex App. I tried disabling h264 and that didn’t fix it. Still trying to figure out how to disable the new player and will report back if that resolves my issues.

@mikec_pt I also noticed that disabling audio Passthrough on the Android TV Plex Client allows all media to play. Which effectively, removes surround sound and down-mixes to stereo. This further indicates the issue is audio related.

Disabling the new player at least for now looks like it worked. I spun up about 20 different videos and they all worked.

This really is something that should be caught in the QA process. With such a wide variety of devices (granted all android), you would think that one of the developers would of seen this issue pop up.

Agreed. Maybe @mikec_pt will get this taken care of? I’ve provided logs with the issue reproduced. See post number 108.

Ok its indeed a different issue but you guys are providing a lot of help in narrowing it down to surround+pass-trough! However we couldn’t repo this using fireTV (however for the TrueHD case, that one would work either has it doesn’t support TrueHD, or so I’m told)

This it could be related to the rest of setup, can you guys share a bit more about the AVR/Sound system setup? In the mean time I’ll open and internal issue and attach existing logs!

truehd files play fine on the kodi w/plex add-on so i know the firestick 4K supports it.
