An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please try restarting both the Plex Media Server and this app

This also fixed the issue with one of my friends but it is very strange that the problem exist because theis problem only ocured when playing movies from him. When I did it from a other server that also was remote there was not the need of changing this setting. :frowning:

I know it’s weird because in my sons room has a different setting and he can play everything, only difference is that his TV it’s newer than mine. But his settings is @ 5.2 while I had to disable it in mine. Weird right ?

Having the same problem on a FireTV stick. Disabled the new video player and now it works. Can’t believe Plex doesn’t have this fixed yet.

Same issue here on Shield TV Pro 2019 and Android app. The same videos work fine on Kodi with the Plex Addon.

Latest update for the android client states:

Player: ensure recommended H264 profile is set to what the device supports.

Has this solved it for anyone?

Yes. So far, the 7.29.1 version has fixed this for me.

nope, doesn’t work. 7.27.0 is what i’ve reverted to for minimal errors and issues (although it still has some)

Have been having this issue on my Android app when trying to play my music off my server, which I’ve been using for years with no issues. I had to uncheck “Prefer synced versions use synched versions over streaming” under Advanced > Player, which I guess means it won’t look at my local synced files when playing, which has never worked for me anyway, so…that fixed it for me.

Thank you! So far version 7.29.1 has fixed it.

Update… Still some videos that play on android tablet but not on fire tv

yup, after my initial post, i’ve had several videos give me this error now.

I am getting this too on my android phone app, with a Synology Plex server. A video with this issue only occurs when I try access the video via mobile data and works fine when I access it via wifi.

Happy to provide logs if Plex is need more examples in trying to fix this.

The new Android update 7.29 did not fix the error for me. Reverting back to 7.25 the last one I know that did work. I believe (for me anyway) the error started on version 7.26.

Just updated my Android Plex client to 7.30.0.16082 - Seems to have resolved the problem of playback when attempting to Direct Stream. Running on an Samsung Galaxy Note 9.

Same issue with Nvidia Sheild as playr. Turning off the new player fixes the problem but the video transcode from 1080 to SD, why is that?

Still issues playing videos on fire tv 4k. Problems for weeks, that’s the worst support there is. Give me my f**** money back for plex lifetime, I can’t use it.

This worked for me. Thanks man. Spent 1 hour going through various settings trying to sort it out for me and other users. Absolutely ridiculous. I don’t know what’s going on with Plex recently; with so many issues, if there was any competition then I’d have jumped ship. A big part of me resents that… :frowning: Not happy.

This started for my around the beginning of February 2020, films I played before won’t play. The strange this in they work fine on my iPad, android phone and on the server itself, but not on the Fire-stick which I use the most.
Uninstalled on the Fire-stick with no success.
Any Support of guidance please?

Having looking through this thread to see some had turned off the ‘User New Player’ it is now working , but the quality is reduced a lot.

it would be great for a fix to this and watch videos in better quality

Same issue on my Fire Cube. Tried playing my 4k 10 bit movies on my LG 4k using the Plex app on my TV and worked perfect. I’m wondering if its a Plex app issue on the Fire Cube or a Fire Cube issue. Please fix it!!!

Maybe we can start a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. Surely paying for a service, that doesn’t work is grounds for breach of contact. I’m no lawyer, but it sounds malicious. Let’s start using words like LEGAL ACTION and LAWSUIT in the forums to maybe get the devs off their a$$.

Can a Plex employee comment on this?
