Two issues that started with updating my phone to Android 11.
When I cast to chromecast, the player frequently disconnects from the chromecast but playback continues. The pause/play and other actions don’t work. If I recast to the chromecast the player picks up the already in progress show and I can control it.
Second issue has to do with the new media controls introduced in Android 11. They are referred to as the media controls or the media notifications that allow faster resuming of playback on items. The intended behavior is that when the app is closed all notifications for that app are removed. This does not happen for Plex. Several resume notifications stack if you play multiple pieces of media.
One irritating way I’ve found to temporarily clear them is to swipe over to the settings, turn off the media notifications, then restart your device. You can turn the media notifications back on after that.
On vanilla android (pixel device) the setting is located under: Sound -> Advanced -> Media
It usually works but not all the time. And the notifications stack up again, so it’s pretty much worthless.
Hopefully this can get cleared up with a new update, it seems like it is just a quirk of the new Android version.
Same issue with the media controls, but I’ve noticed that if you enable Hide player when the media session has ended that the issue goes away. The downside to enabling this setting is that all media controls for Plex disappear at the same time and the only way to play/pause media is to go back into the app. Plex also no longer automatically pauses when a bluetooth audio device is disconnected. I’ve also found if you do not elect to hide player when media session is ended that over 90% of the time the play/pause buttons don’t work anyway, even if media is actively playing. Plex is basically broken in Android 11 when it comes to controlling playback outside of the app itself.
