Thanks for the info.
Can you edit the title of the thread? If so, make it more specific. Something like “Philips AndroidTV no longer plays MPEG2 and AC3 DVM audio.”
This seems like a correct summary of things:
Container: AVI
Audio format: AC3 DVM and MPEG2
Problem: No longer plays on Philips OLED804 AndroidTV. Still plays on other clients, such as AppleTV.
A couple more diagnostic questions:
When playing using AndroidTV, does Plex direct play, direct stream, or transcode the files?
If not already transcoding, what happens when you force a transcode? Changing the quality during playback should force a video and audio transcode.
You can see playback status in the Now Playing section of the Plex Dashboard. Plex Web -> Activity icon -> Dashboard.
I found a MPEG2 audio sample. Alcorn McBride Colored Circles Promo Clip (HD) at https://alcorn.com/support/test-files/.
It direct played on my Nvidia Shield and transcoded to AAC when I forced a transcode.
I could not find any “AC3 DVM” samples with which to test, nor any real information about that audio format. I’m not sure what is different from “regular” AC3 audio.
If you can point me to a sample, I’d be glad to see if it plays on my system.
Next steps would be to gather log files from the server & client and include Plex XML info for a sample of each video type.
Since this used to work, but no longer does so, it might take Plex involvement to fix. That’s why the diagnostic & log info is needed.
Also, is there some reason you’re still on PMS 1.16.6.1592? It was released in August 2019. I do not know if updating to the current 1.18.x release will help. However, there has been many updates since 1.16.x. For example, the Plex transcoder had many changes starting with 1.17.x.
Same question for the AndroidTV client. 7.26.0.14578 was release in December 2019. There have been several updates since then.
