Nevermind - Done with Plex LiveTV - Android TV playing wrong audio track

Server Version#: Win10 1.19.1.2645
Player Version#: 7.31.0.16605
Tuner Make/Model: WinTV-dualHD

Very strange problem with Android TV. I am in USA if it matters. I have a Sony Android TV as well as Nvidia Shield. Both have same problem. When playing live TV the wrong auido stream is played. Instead of the 5.1 track, it will play the 2.0. I have even seen it play ONLY the center channel. I can see this since I have a Denon AVR and can see the source audio. Sometimes it will play the 5.1 track, but mostly the wrong one. I do have it selected in options to play the 5.1 and when I look at the playback info, it thinks it is playing the 5.1.

One time it played a visually impaired track. It had an audio overlay that described what was happening on screen “A ball bounces across the playground”

I also have a Roku TV and it does not have this problem.
@adutchman can you look and see if you have this?

I have not noticed this in my setup. I will pay more attention. I have two shields, one in bedroom with 2 channel audio setup and one in basement theater, with 7.2 surround sound.

I do know that all of the movies in my library only have 5.1 audio track embeded in them, so, unless Plex is down coding the audio, I don’t see that happening with the movies.

My TV shows are all OTA recordings from local broadcasts, which will record with 5.1 audio if the broadcast includes that.

Ok I had some time to mess with this and here is what I see. The easiest way for me to show the problem is with a screenshot from the Denon AVR mobile app. I tune an OTA channel and I only get a 2 channel audio input. I go to the on screen Plex audio options and 5.1 is selected. I change to spanish stereo. The audio does not change. It is still 2 ch english even though it shows it should be playing a spanish audio track

I change back to the 5.1 selection and I get 5.1 input. It does not stick. Once I change channels, it is back to the same problem. I can repeat this 100% of the time

I have this problem on the Sony TV and Nvidia Shield. I do not have this problem on the Roku TV so it seems like an Android TV issue

Sorry to hear you’re experiencing problems with the app @sjmplex .
In order to investigate the issue, do you mind sharing app logs following this article?
Thanks in advance

EDIT: I’ve opened an internal ticket to investigate it in the meantime

Thanks. I will get that later today

A bit more info. Last night I completely removed and reinstalled the PMS. I wanted to eliminate that it was a server side issue. No change. Same problem. One interesting note is a recorded TV show is fine. Its only a live broadcast. The Roku TV does not have this issue, but if I select the spanish audio stream, it still play an english 2 ch audio track.

@jesusmc logs attached. I could not get logs fron Sony TV “refused to connect” Interestingly, the TV problem has gotten worse. When I switch the audio stream back and forth I now get an error on the screen

The logs from the Nvidia are attached. I switched back and forth as described in my previous post and that did change audio to 5.1Plex.zip (146.8 KB)

If you want to fix this for other users, great, but no longer an issue for me. Live TV DVR used to be a great feature for me but not any more. It went from something that worked really well on Android TV to just a constant stream (pun intended) of issues. Watch from start works, then doesnt, is fixed then broken, then fixed again… Now just watching live TV and getting the correct audio stream isnt even right.

Never really had any issue with EPG and commercial removal has always worked well.

My yearly Plex Pass expired and I decided not to renew. Best to all and stay healthy

I have the same problem and its specific to Android TV (shield) as my iPhone, web player correclty switches audio - but android TV does not (even though it shows in the GUI as if it changed , it’s still playing the original audio)

For example - i have couple of German channels but my account, PMS and user has English set as default language. When tuning to German channel ( channel that has both ENG and GER audio track) the iOS and Web player correctly pick and play ENG audio track.
The Shield client SHOWS in the audio picker dialog that it is playing ENG audio track but in reality it is playing the first audio stream (GER).

Any news on this ? are the logs needed or is this known nVidia shield bug ?

fyi, if i record the programme which cant change audio track (on nvidia shield) and then play it back from the library -> the audio track switching works.
So it’s just live TV content that cant switch audio track and only on nVidia shield (web, iOS, PMP switch audio track fine in live TV and recorded programme)

This happens on both my Sony TV and Shield so it looks like an Android TV bug. Like you, recordings are OK, just live TV does this.

Again, Im done with this. Live TV/DVR used to be a very good product on Android TV. Seems the focus has been to get it work better on other platforms and somehow Android TV went down the tubes. Hope it gets fixed for the other users that are still using this feature
