There were a number of posts related to this topic but all were closed to comments. I just installed and HD Homerun Quatro and am using the Plex Live TV and DVR. I can play everything fine on the web and my Roku players. However, I cannot play live tv on my android mobile. I have tried the audio fixes and other things mentioned in the other threads. I was also not able to play recorded content on my mobile until I turned off closed captions. However, there is no way to do this in the live tv section.
How can I play live TV via the Plex app on my Android mobile?

Same issue here, Live TV won’t play on either of my Android devices but works via Win10 Plex player and web browser. The same error message appears on both Android devices - “An error occurred while attempting to play this video…”. I’ve attached server logs, the error consistently being Transcoder related.
Client log from the Android device running the beta software also uploaded.
I’ve found a fix for mine after trawling through threads…
Found this one which is Android-TV and Nvidia Shield related but the Android logs were showing a similar error -
Which led me to changing Settings > Network > Secure connections from Preferred to Disabled, which is OK for me as I only use the server via a LAN, and Live TV immediately started working again.
Thanks @KarlMcC. I am trying this out and appears to work. I set it back to preferred and things worked for a bit and then stopped so I just left it disabled. We’ll see how it plays out.
Playing “Live TV & DVR” fails with popup error:
An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please try restarting both the Plex Media Server and this app.
in these scenarios:
Android (OnePlus 6T on OS10, arm64v8a)
fails version 7.30.1 and 7.31.0
works with 7.27.1 and 7.29.1
FireStick 4k (OS version 6.2.7.1, armv7a)
fails version 7.30.1
works with 7.27.1 (did not try 7.29.1)
Note that on both 7.27.1 and 7.29.1 on both devices I can find no option for switching to the old/new player.
Which led me to changing Settings > Network > Secure connections from Preferred to Disabled, which is OK for me as I only use the server via a LAN, and Live TV immediately started working again.
On the Android app there is no Settings > Network, but there is a Settings > Advanced > Allow insecure connections, which I’ve not tried. My network tuner device is an HDHomeRun HDHR3-US, which plays and records OTA just fine.
Same thing here. Man, this issue has been frustrating. To get around it, I’ve had to turn off the new player experience. I’m having the exact same problem on my FireTV 4k, both MiBox3s, and my LG V30 phone.
I’ve attached my log from my MiBox3 after getting the same error here.
But I also just tried to change the Settings > Network > Secure Connections on the server to Disabled (thank you mostlychris! I had no idea the posts above referred to the server settings). Then I had to go to the Plex Player and change the Advanced Setting > Allow Insecure Connections from Never to On Same Network.
Now it seems to be working okay. Hopefully it lasts. The new player experience is so much nicer than the old one. I hated having to disable it! MiBox3 Log.txt (1.2 MB)
I’m running 8.2.1.18636 from the play store on my phone, and works.
On my FireTV I’m currently running version 7.3.1.0.16542 which works.
I just upgraded the FireTV to v8.2.1.18636, and it works.
What version and device are you having problms with?
8.2.1.18636, same error as before when using HTTPS, no error when I shut HTTPS down on my server.
I guess the problem might be server side as I have the same problem with a LG WebOS app.
Still no answer from Plex team, nice to pay a premium…
