For the last 3 weeks, the Plex Android app has failed to stream live TV from my VBox Android TV to Android plex app on 3 android devices, with the message: An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please try restarting both the PMS and this app.
No issues with PMS recording live TV streams from VBOx Android TV, just cannot stream live streams to App. No live stream issues to either Windows 10, KODI or VBox live TV Apps. I have reloaded PMS and reinstalled Plex Android Client with no success. Someone suggested disabling new player under advanced settings on the client app but no option available as far as I can see. Any other suggestions?
I have similar problems.
I have two android devices - a phone and a tablet. If I use the cellular connection on my phone, which in my case results in a Plex indirect connection, streaming live TV always works. Likewise if I use my phone as a cellular hotspot for my tablet, which again results in an indirect Plex connection, I can stream live TV on my tablet.
Where things go wrong is when I try to stream live TV using my home WiFi. Sometimes it works, sometimes it generates the same error message as given in the OP. It seems to depend on what I did with the app before I try to stream live TV. For example, if I watch a HD video before I stream live TV then it tends to fail. However, if I successfully stream live TV using a cellular connection then switch back to home WiFi it tends to work.
Also, and possibly related, if I restrict the data transfer rate under the “Quality - Home streaming” setting on the Android app so that my server needs to downscale / transcode output then the app fails generating the same error message. In other words, ALL transcoded video output to Android devices on my local area network fail 100% of the time…perhaps the fault with live TV is that the server attempts to transcode it…
