This problem is also happening to me on my plex client.
When I go to Library either from Movies or Music, I can navigate inside a folder but as soon as I get out of a folder, it crashes. The server runs fine on my Win10 machine.
The crash also happens on my Android device.
I tried repairing the database, reinstalling the client and server to no avail.
No crash report is generated either.
So I found out since the update, the one that we are able to download subtitles directly from opensubtitles, this crash has been happening and noticed something.
In the folder view, there are 6 folders per row. If I navigate to the 2nd folder and go back it will automatically select the first folder even though I was on the 2nd. If I navigate to anything on the 3rd row or more, the client crashes and I need to restart it ever time.
It no longer retains the folder I am navigating. This happens on all folder views no matter how many folder there are. Please help !!!
I’ve moved this in its own thread as it’s related to Android clients.
Also… could you share some more details, e.g. what versions of Plex Media Server and Plex for Android do you have installed in your setup?
It appears the crash you describe in your first paragraph is not happening every time? (you mention further down that you can actually navigate “up” from a folder when the selection(?) changes back to the 1st folder (I wasn’t aware there was a visible selection but I also got no Android phone to verify this).
Thanks for replying and moving the thread accordingly but I have to mention I am more concerned about my 4k Fire Stick as it is my primary device.
I can certainly provide more details.
Plex Media Server Version : 1.19.4.2935, currently marked up to date.
Client version : 8.3.1.19108 (d686ac64)
Yes the crash is when I go “up a folder”
Example:
My library is called Movies and it contains 25 folders.
If I navigate to let’s say folder #4 and go up a folder back to the library root, the first folder will get selected and there is no crash ( because I can still see it on screen ) even though the 4th folder should be selected and focused.
If I navigate to folder #13 or higher and go up a folder back to the root, it will crash. ( The first folder is no longer in view )
Another scenario, In my library, I have 25 folders, in the 2nd folder there is another 25 folders.
I navigate to the 2nd folder then navigate to folder #20, when I go back up a folder, basically back to the 2nd folder, the crash will happen. ( The first folder is no longer in view )
So what I have really noticed is, in folder view whenever I go up a folder it seems to scan all the folders again which this never occurred in the past and attempts to always go back to the first folder in the list. I think this is why every time I go up a folder, it repositions me to the first folder instead of staying in the folder I am coming back from. If the first folder is not in view, it crashes.
Selecting anything on the 3rd row or above will trigger this crash.
I can maybe record a quick video to show you exactly what is happening, if this is permitted.
I also have to mention, the server works perfectly and the client as well for the exception of folder navigation. Any other view, I can navigate without having this weird behavior of always selecting the first item in the list when going back or up.
FYI, this no longer happens on my Android device after rebooting it.
It now only happens on my 4k FireStick.
I tried a factory reset and a fresh install but still the same result.
I am also having this exact same issue on Nvidia Shield TV (not at home atm, will update with tech specs later). I have no issues navigating folders on the PC/server, nor do I have issues on other devices (have tried with Playstation 4, Roku, Samsung Tab A, Note 10, and Samsung TV). For me, this issue seems to be restricted to Android TV, not mobile Android devices.
