Can't Open Folders Anymore! Android! "Other Videos"

Why can’t I open Folders Anymore? I mean My Tablet and Android Phones have never ever had a problem. Now all of a sudden I can’t open folders on my Android Phone or Android Tablet.

I can open the folders on my Nvidia Shield or via any web browser.

-Library Scan = “Other Videos”
-Server = Nvidia Shield
-Player = Android Phone or Tablet

I can also open folders in “Movies” Scanner however, it is only one folder deep I believe. Did an update occur to where if you have more than 1 or 2 folders deep in your organization plex will no longer let you view the files?

Other Videos
-Folder
-Than Another Folder

Is this no longer working?

I was having the same issue. It seems that the branch 12 days ago is to blame and any builds after that point have the same issue. If you uninstall and manually install the apk from 18 days ago it, you should get working folders again.

The devs have the apks posted here (this link should take you straight to the last build where folders were working) : Plex for Android - #465 by marekszulik

In case it helps with troubleshooting if someone at plex can investigate:

Folder view on Android 9.20.1 looks like this and works as expected: Plex Android 9.20.1 Folder - Album on Imgur

Folder view starting on Android 9.21.0 looks like this and prevents you from clicking further into sub folders: Plex Android 9.21.0 Folder View - Album on Imgur

In both cases, you can click and hold to view sub options (Play Folder, Shuffle, etc) so they can technically be interacted with, but starting in 9.21.0 you can no longer tap to enter sub folders.

For now, I’m going back to 9.20.1 but let me know if I can provide any additional info that might help resolve it.

Hope this helps OP and Plex staff!

I’ve the same issues with the foto subfolders on android 12/13 (Samsung Tab S9 and Huawei P30). The error occurred a few days ago for the first time. The Plex clients on iOS, MacOS, Linux and Windows work correctly.

Thanks for the report, we’re investigating the issue.

So will there be an update? Will a Server Update Fix This or a Player Update Fix This? Meaning when I update the Android Phone Plex App or when I update the Plex Media Server on my Shield?

Thanks for your post with the fix @RokixSlugg, this has been properly ruining my enjoyment of Plex for the last three weeks. I’ve now downloaded 9.20.1 and all is working fine again. I have shared the link to your post here in my own chat about this issue. Again much appreciated.

Same issue on a Samsung Android

Not a server update, cuz only Android players are affected!

May I ask an Estimated Time of when this will be fixed?

Do we have an eta on this fix? Why are we paying for the pass when we are not able to use it properly? Sure, I can install an older version and it works for a single day and it goes right back to the same issue meaning I have to uninstall reinstall log in and set up again over and over.
My annual fee just went out, but it’s been over a month since the Devs last said anything and that was a meaningless “We will look into it.” Can we at least get an update on this issue??

The issue is in our backlog, I can’t provide an exact timeline on when it’s going to be out in a production build.

In the meantime you can use other views than the folder view to access your data.

Updated to 9.24.0.2105 today and still not fixed.

Very frustrating issue for those of us that have libraries of other content that several folders deep

Could not agree more. I have folders in folders and Plex’s ‘workaround’ is impossible

For the time being I stick to version 9.14.0.37871 (January 2023).

It’s fixed in 9.25 beta. It’s scheduled to reach production within 2 weeks.
