Android mobile device conects to PMS without issue but cannot play back any movies or TV shows

My son’s Android phone which is an LG Styo 3 plus can connect to both of my PMS servers but cannot play any movies or shows, no matter what we select and no matter what server we are connected to both locally on the same LAN and remotely he get’s the following error message:

Error
Playback has stopped becuase the connection to the Plex Media Server has been lost. Please ensure the server is available and retry.

I have updated both the server and the player to the latest versions (noted below) and the Android version is: 7.0

Always allow insecure connections is enabled on both the PMS and the handheld device. I have also enabled access to logging over the network from my son’s Plex player.

What do I need to do next to get his player working? Thanks

Server Version#: 1.16.4.1469 (running on Windows 10 Pro)
Player Version#: 7.19.2.11789 (running on LG Stylo 3 Plus w/ Android 7.0)

Do you have any logs you can post so I can take a look? I don’t think I have enough info as it stands. Although somebody with more experience might be able to help more.

That error is quite generic. You’ll need to provide the log from the app after reproducing the issue.

Plex Media Server Logs_2019-08-16_15-19-10.zip (4.3 MB) plex-log-Evan.zip (233.7 KB)

Here are my logs. Uploaded them 6 days ago and still no response. When might I hear back on the log results?

Thank you!

Sorry. Did not see the ping about the logs. It looks like the device had an issue decoding the video. I see that you have the default profile level set to 5.2. It is possible that the device does not actually support that. Try setting it to a lower level. This may result in some videos being transcoded but at least they should play. I’ll keep looking at your log but that is what I see so far.

I am having the exact same problem with my LG Stylo 3. I’ve gone back versions, i’ve tried every profile version from 5.2 on down and still no luck.

I’ll need a new log with the lower profile setting.

Okay, thanks! Next time my son is home I will lower the profile version and if the problem persists, I will upload the new log files.

Thanks again!

Okay, just to report back, you guys have made this process difficult enough that my son has actually told me he doesn’t really need to watch Plex on his phone… Nice work guys! Maybe next time you could just fix the bug instead of endless back and forth log sending and trouble shooting that does not solve the problem. I lowered the profile level from 5.2 to 1.0. Same problem. I am letting this one go as my son has informed me that he doesn’t carer and I am far too busy to be spending time on something like this that should just work in the first place.

@KevinPDX I know that feeling! The only way I have got around this issue is to install 7. 14.9xx and everything works again. I’ve had to switch off auto update in Google Play store for Plex, and it does seem that @sixones, @jesusmcand other Plex gurus just aren’t bothered full stop! I’m considering breaking the bank and either purchasing a new phone or go to another media server… The way we’re being treated isn’t the best… But those liked myself who purchased a lifetime pass are stuck with a broken system that we wasted money on!!

Thanks Dave!
I appreciate knowing someone else KNOWS how it feels!
How were you able to get the older version on your device? Any further help you can offer would be HUGELY appreciated! In the meantime, I will see if I can get the older version myself.
Thanks again!

Okay, I found an older version and IT WORKS NOW!!! You helped me fix in 5 minutes what Plex could not fix in over a month…

DAVE IS THE NEW BOSS!!!

@KevinPDX Ah don’t mention it :grinning: just glad I was able to help a fellow Plex user that was stuck like myself. Just wished they would actually acknowledge that there’s a regression for some devices rather than leave us hanging out to dry…
They say they listen, but they seem to only listen to new members or those who give out useful features to add. I like the idea they want to add stuff like Warner and other ad supported streaming channels, but they should fix other issues first! I know they’re fighting a losing battle at present with the live TV EPG, thanks to TiVo, here in the UK the EPG is a total mess, I’m just glad at the moment that I actually aren’t using it.

Also sorry for the delay in replying, it’s 0310 here in the UK, and we’ve been woken up by a Thunderstorm… Thankfully our 9 month old is still so asleep

@sixones or @jesusmc any chance of getting this issue fixed before Xmas 2020? Or maybe this Xmas?
The issue is still there in the latest beta release and it’s beginning to drag users of Android 6 devices down! You guys say that you listen, but from 7.15.xxx to now it doesn’t seem it.
I doubt I’ll get an answer, never do, it’s just not on users just being left out to dry and not able to use Plex without reverting back to 7.14.9xxx
