I tried recording stuff with the DVR since I’m thinking about moving our home to using that for DVR and the shows I recorded wouldn’t play on the Android app. I tried on my Google TV and it worked. Then I tried on my phone with VLC as the external player and that worked. Then I tried again as Plex itself as the external player and THAT worked. So Plex can play the file it seems. Why do I get an error dialog that pops up when I try to play it without an external player?
Having the same issue. DVR recordings play fine on my Samsung phone but won’t play on my wife’s Pixel. I can’t even get it to work on an external player. They even play fine on my daughters $40 Fire Tablet. Is there something special about the Pixel to make it error with Plex DVR? All other media (Movies, Streams, etc.) play fine on her phone. The issue only applies to her phone playing DVR content. Hopefully someone can shed light on this for us.
I just figured out that this works if I turn transcoding back on. I had it turned off because I have it on a NUC and it’s not that powerful, but it seems that it won’t transcode the container if you have that turned off. So I guess there’s no way to turn off transcoding for reencoding video on the fly but leaving it on for just the container format. Ug. Why is it all or nothing?
I would bother to put this in the feature suggestion forums, but none of that stuff is ever done by the company while they’re busy adding features like VR video calls to their media server.
