Android playback jumping forward random amount

When playing media through the android Plex app, it will often pixelate then skip forward randomly anywhere from a few seconds to 10 minutes, this issue does not occur when playing media on the PC locally(?) through Plex app.
This issue is causing watching a 30min show to take up to an hour as I have to figure out where I was up to before the skip and then find that time stamp.
It feels like the issue is being caused by the android app, however I don’t know how it communicates with the server where the current timestamp on the media should be.
Regards.

bump, would love to get some insight on this

Sorry for missing you posts. Looks like it is loosing connections to server when trying get transcoded segments and when it finally gets one it is the jump time later.

07-13 01:18:36.354 i: [FFmpeg] [ERROR] [matroska,webm @ 0x72eb4c3000] Invalid EBML number size tag 0x05 at pos 7446699 (0x71a0ab)

there are a bunch of errors like this which I am not sure at the moment is the issue but looks like some times the player recovers and continues to play normally and others it fails getting the next transcoded segments which seem like Websocket errors making it lose connection. I’m going to need to ask the android devs when they are back.

Have you seen this on direct play or direct streamed files?

Thankyou for your reply.

To be honest i’m not really sure how to tell, i’ve had a read of the below link and I don’t know of the compatible codecs/bitrates/containers for my android device.
https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250387-streaming-media-direct-play-and-direct-stream/

A video file I encountered this issue with yesterday has the following details;

.mkv extension/container
image

I would assume this is compatible with the client, but i’m not really sure how to tell.

Bump. Had a show jump from 1:55 to 19:39 last night.

While it is playing you can look at the dashboard in the web app to see if it is transcoding or not.

Both the files mentioned here and here show the below details in the dashboard while playing:

Video
720p (H.264)
Direct Stream

Audio
English (EAC3 5.1)
AAC—Transcode

still looking into this. just wanted to check that you are having same issue as these folks. Android-TV skipping forward random amounts of time I was going to merge the topics but wanted be sure same thing.

I believe it is the same issue as the OP, though not the same as this response.
I also had larger skips than mentioned in OP, as well as not having the period of time unaffected that they mentioned.

Been trying to reproduce but still cannot. it is possible to get a copy of one of your files that it happens to. Can you put it on Google Drive or similar and message me a link to it?

Files sent.

Any info on this? I’ve started to have this same issue.
