During playback of any stored videos (movies or tv shows) Plex will randomly skip forward anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes with no warning. It’s occured across a wide range of movies and shows so this doesn’t seem to be specific to any one file.
When it happens the screen will show some blocky distortion for a moment and it jumps ahead.
I’ve seen some older locked threads about this but nothing recent.

Same issue. I’m on the same beta version on Shield TV. Very annoying glitch.
it is possible to get the android logs right after it happens.
Same issue here. I’ve noticed that it’s only movies that I’ve converted to H 265 and only certain ones. As soon as I come across one again I’ll let you know with logs as well.
@BigWheel I’ll see if I can reproduce and get logs. haven’t been using Plex much lately as I’ve been moving into a new house.
I have no h265 content in my libraries so I don’t think h265 is the culprit here.

Okay that’s good to know. I thought that was the culprit, I’ll continue looking into it as well. Fyi big wheel is the one working on it LOL. You tagged the wrong employee.
Lol duh, that’s what I get for answering threads as soon as I wake up.
If not codec i’m sorta guessing it has to do with high bitrate or maybe reference frames so if you can also get the plex media info xml for the file you reproduced it with would be helpful
Yeah me too same thing.
it stutter and after 2 min plex 8.22 beta (on shield tv 2019) crashes and get me back to the home screen. It works well with plex and infuse on apple tv 4k.
I’ll get to this soon hopefully I’m moving this weekend so i probably wont be able to test till next week if someone can get to this sooner.
As far high bitrate files, i don’t think its that as I don’t run any 4k stuff and this is happening with 720p copies of shows like “Archer” and the like. But I’ll try to reproduce and report with XML and remote logs.
I haven’t been able to reproduce this lately, its possible its already been addressed in an update. I’ll bump this thread again if I’m still seeing it
Same it just magically stopped.
Hey @BigWheel its happening again. Please see attached. Thanks!

I did not get Android logs. But I’ll get them next time, I just wanted to watch my movie with the family. So I jumped over to Emby to watch the movie. But went back this morning on Plex to try to get the logs watching the same movie and it’s not doing it again.
I have the same problem on two Nvidia Shield TV Pro’s (one wireless and one cabled) with a separate Ubuntu-server.
Player version: 8.22.0.27533 (bdaff3f3)
Server version: 1.24.2.4973 (64 bit)
Skipping ahead is the only way it wants to skip, unless I navigate up to the timeline-bar and move that to the left manually (and even then it sometimes skips way way ahead instead of starting where I put the round circle). Really annoying. I have a lot of H.265 and without being 100% confident it only seems to happen when it’s H.265.
Edit: Also happens with H.264 1080p files, which in this example is being direct streamed instead of direct played (.mkv to .mp4 according to Tautulli), even when I disable subtitles.
Any update to this? I’m also using the Nvidia shield.
So randomly out of know where it will skip forward. Video turns into a jumbled mess for a half second and then it will skip anywhere between 1 minute to 30 minutes…
Any ideas?
Some more details:
Server Version: 1.25.0.5220
Shield TV App Version: 8.25.1.28703
Here’s a log code of the video getting pixelated. Anything to note?NoPaste - No-database paste service
Here’s another pixelate that skipped:
From what I can see: FFmpeg Error - https://i.imgur.com/dmoxUhg.png
I believe this is when it skipped…
This has started happening for me again as well. Not nearly as aggregious as before, it sometimes will skip like 10 seconds instead of several minutes. It’s random and difficult to reproduce so I haven’t gotten any new logs of it.
Edit: happened again just now, skipped ten minutes. The problem is it is completely random, so it’s impossible to get logs unless I just keep logging in the client on all the time.
Just wanted to give you guys an update this is still an ongoing issue. I tried to start to shows and they start in fast forward and won’t stop. They fast forward through the whole show which makes it unwatchable. The only way to stop it is to force transcode. It’s a little different than the skipping forward but probably is the same cause as it only happens on my shield.
thanks for the info @JasonsPlex
