Android Plex 2025.16.0 not buffering server hosted movies

Server Version#:1.41.6.9685
2025.16.0
I only really use Plex when travelling. The new Android app is not working for me on movies.

When playing server hosted movies on a train, the movie does not appear to be buffering at all. Every time the mobile signal is lost for more than a moment, Plex errors: has no base uri, status: notConnected, then when I close that error window I get an “uh-oh something’s gone wrong page” and I have to restart Plex. Like as not, it starts again much earlier in the movie.

Android 15, Synology server, One Plus 11 phone.

Are you watching really high bitrate files? The buffer is relatively small so with a large file there won’t be much to buffer.

Thabks for the reply, but it’s not a bit rate issue. I’m watching old films, low bitrates, often b&w. I haven’t looked at bit rate, but typically the file size for the movie is less than 2GB. My home network is low latency, 600Mb/.s up and down and has been the same for a couple of years; my phone hasn’t changed.

PMS updated last night to the latest version, made no difference.

Until recently, the timeline/progress bar would often show a good many minutes of advance buffering, which would take me through dodgy signal areas and tunnels with no problem, now it shows none at all.

I would be using the Download feature where there is good signal. Works great on version: 2025.17.0

That’s a good idea, I’ll do that next time. Wasn’t a problem in the recent past though, it shouldn’t be needed, something is broken.

If you can grab the app logs the next time this happens, i can check how much it had buffered.

Thanks that’s kind of you, I will. I will change my DNS to Cloudflare, I used to have it set to Open DNS but for some reason DHCP has gotten turned back on & it’s gone back to my ISP’s. If the error persists after that, I will grab the app log.
