The issues continue with the Mi Box (Android 6.0) and the audio sync problem. I was hoping the update to the ExoPlayer would help this but apparently not.
The latest beta (5.2.0.376) also seems to make the app not work at all on the Nexus Player (Android 7.0). I can get in and browse my media but as soon as I try to play anything, it hangs for about 10-15 seconds and then tells me it losses connection to the server. Very frustrating.
Lastly, and I’m not sure why I haven’t noticed this with the other releases since 5.1, but I’m not getting the new interface…on either device. I don’t know if it’s because I’m running Beta 3 PMS for the DVR or what, but its the old Android TV layout still (again, on both devices). It dawned on me when I saw the Plex News email today. What’s going on here?? I’m obviously past the required 4.4 version of Android. Can anyone from Plex provide a little insight into why I’m seeing the old layout with the latest beta?
Here’s a link to the logs and a sample file:
** Edit ** Logs removed for now
Looking at the Nexus Player log, it appears as if it’s trying to transcode the media. It hasn’t done this before. It says my media is h.264 with a profile higher than the player supported level of 42. It can’t be because I specifically use “level 4.1” when encoding with Handbrake. Also, it appears the player is trying to use a codec needed to play a h.265 media file.
Here’s what the server lists for the media info for this file:
You’re not seeing the new tv interface because it’s meant to be used on non official android boxes like minix boxes. Official AndroidTv devices like those you have have their own special interface.
Maybe you didn’t read my posts…I was using the latest beta release and I couldn’t watch anything. I rolled back to a previous release until it’s fixed. Also, was posting for the Plex devs so they could narrow down the issue.
Guys, there seems to be lots of issues with the Android TV release of this app since the 5.1 release and across multiple Android TV devices. I’ve seen posts here in the beta forums and in the Android TV section for the stable releases. I haven’t seen many posts from anyone on the Plex side.
Being part of the beta, in my opinion, is supposed to be a win-win. Users that like to test new features get to do so early and you guys get our help testing these for bugs. Problem is, when we post issues, especially here in the beta forums, I guess I would expect a little more interaction. I’ve posted logs (I’ve since taken them down until someone actually needs them…then I’ll repost them) and a data sample and yet nothing. What gives?? Heck, even if its a simple comment, “Got the logs and data. We’re reviewing the issue”. I know not all the answers are easy or apparent immediately but sitting here in limbo is frustrating. If us testing isn’t proving to be helpful, please let us know so we can all move along…

Just because you don’t see a reply, doesn’t mean the devs don’t see it. This has been stated by the team time and time again. I would prefer they sit at a desk coding all day to make the app better than reply to everyone saying yep got logs testing.

Normally, I would agree with you. However, this is the beta section of the Android TV forum. Like I mention in my post above, people like to get their hands on new features early, but Plex benefits as well because users are testing for them…on their own time. It’s not like this beta forum is littered with posts like the standard Android TV forum. If the Plex devs/ninjas were replying to every thread there, then yes, I could see that taking time away from doing real work. In the beta section, a simple reply will let all beta testers know a particular bug or set of bugs are being worked on and could actually help relieve people making duplicate posts or adding to posts with information that ultimately isn’t needed… I’m not asking for an essay write-up, but a simple acknowledgement. The other reason is, I posted a link to the logs and data sample. Personally, I don’t like those links open too long. A reply lets me know I can unshare that link and take the data down. If a simple reply is too much to ask (again, in the beta formus where I’m taking my time to test), I’ll resort to whining like everyone else and not post logs…
