I am trying to play a movie with DTS-HD via ARC and unfortunately the Android TV app doesn’t downgrade the audio to DTS code and it’s not playable (i suppose due to HDMI bandwidth issues).
The Android TV app should automatically ‘downgrade’ DTS-HD to DTS core, similar to what the Plex Media Player is doing. I have PMP on a mac mini that is connected to my Sony OLED AF8 (which is then connected via ARC to an amp) and when i am watching a MKV with DTS-HD, Plex PMP automatically passes DTS 5.1 and everything plays fine. Same file on the Android TV app is not playing, it has the shuttering case described above. In old PMP and in Plex add on for Kodi, there is an option to add your audio system setup (5.1/7.1 or capability on decoding certain formats) so the app will do the necessary downscaling from DTS-HD -> DTS core.
I tried the same file on Kodi with Plex add on and everything played fine… the app downgraded automatically the DTS HD to DTS core and the file played just fine.
I don’t get how on earth the Plex add-on can do it, the PMP app can do it, and the Plex Android TV app can’t.
Facing the same issue. Sony Amdroid TV with Sony reveiver (connected with HDMI ARC) reports DTS when I try to play someting with DTS-HD MA (24 bitdepth) but the sound is stuttering. If I play DTS-HD MA (16 bitdepth) playback is fine.
As i mentioned above it’s working perfect on my Plex Media Player on Mac (HDMI to TV, ARC to amplifier), and it works perfect on Kodi in the Sony TV (with Plex add-on)… in both cases audio (DTS) and video play without any issue.
Clearly the problem is with the Android app or player… how can we raise this bug to the support team?
We would welcome some feedback from you whether this is something that you are already aware of and something that you are currently working on. Unfortunately all my 4k HDR files with DTS-HD MA are not playable via the Android TV app, so just for these files i need to change to PMP on my Macmini or to Kodi with Plex add-on on my TV.
