Android TV (Shield) Skip Intro opens overlay instead

Server Version#:1.28.0.5999
Player Version#:9.6.0.34226

On other devices, when the Skip Intro button appears, you can usually hit OK or Enter or whatever to skip the intro.

On my Nvidia Shield, whenever the Skip Intro button appears and I hit Ok/Enter, it brings up the whole UI and I have to navigate to the right to select Skip Intro instead of it being in focus from the get-go. Can you change it to a single click like you see on other players instead?

That’s odd, it should be working with the SHIELD remote. Which remote or controller are you using with the SHIELD?

It’s third party, yet it works when I move over to Skip Intro and hit the OK button. The button works on all other aspects of the UI. The only thing that doesn’t work depending on the app is hitting OK when a virtual keyboard is up and I want to select letters. Do you suspect that’s the issue?

Hmm that is very odd, the button should have focus when it appears so that when you press select/ok you automatically toggle the skip intro button. I suspect your input device is using something that the Android system isn’t picking up as a “click” - though it’s odd that it then works when you manually move to the button.

I’ve made a build below that you can install on your SHIELD, it won’t fix the issue but it will log out what keys are pushed so I can investigate further. If you could install, and then play something that has a skippable intro, then attempt to press the Skip Intro button using your OK button, when that fails move to the Skip Intro button and use OK as well.

Can you also confirm that the Skip Intro button is white when it appears?

Once done, grab the logs and share them with me, steps for fetching the logs are available here: Android, Android TV, Fire TV, Portal Logs | Plex Support

Can confirm it works with the 2017 remote correctly. This is just motivation to buy one of the new triangle official remotes honestly instead of messing with trying to fix a third party remote. Thanks for your help.

No problem, the triangle remote is worth it, small and simple to use!

I also experience this with 3 different third-party remotes.

Feel free to try his version and give him the info/logs. :slightly_smiling_face:

Can confirm the newer 2019 remote I bought for my 2017 Shield fixes everything, but it is interesting that multiple third party remotes seem to exhibit this behavior according to Jake_Evans.

I also went out and bought the triangle remote.
Im so glad i did… it’s great!
