Playback on Shield TV Pro Skips Forward Randomly

During playback, the playback will sporadically jump forward skipping anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes of the file. I’ve seen it skip as much as 15-20 minutes ahead before. It seems like the issue occurs more frequently with larger (or, at least, longer) files but, honestly, I might just be imagining that.

This problem has persisted from my old (non-pro) Shield TV to my current Shield TV Pro and this problem has persisted from an old iteration of my server (on Intel Z97) to the current iteration of it (on AMD X399).

So, I have much reason to believe the issue lies in the software somewhere. Whether it’s a bug or a configuration issue… that I can’t tell. Anybody have any ideas?

Plex log from Shield Pro.txt (1.1 MB)

I experience the same exact problem. Happens with a large range of media too. These recent Plex updates are absolutely garbage. I wish I could roll back to a much earlier version and STOP all client updates because each one seems worse and worse.

Twice this month, alone, I’ve gone to watch a movie with my girlfriend and had to actually go get the damn disk out because Plex kept randomly skipping.

It doesn’t make much sense to me, honestly. Video playback is the #1 primary purpose of Plex. How it isn’t the most optimized/bulletproof/reliable feature is beyond me. How’re you gonna have your dev team running around adding new features (and lots of them, at that) when there are still bugs in video playback, of all things?

Just sideload an old version and then turn off auto-updates.

There’s no way to prevent auto updates as far as I know. Even if I were to sideload, I don’t think I could prevent it from upgrading itself. If you have a method (besides blocking via firewall or something), I’m all ears because I’m at my wits’ end here.

I’m actually considering installing Kodi wtih PlexKodiConnect but would REALLY not want to over-complicate my setup like that. I took the scorched earth path of the weekend and nuked my shield. Was using Plex last night, bam skipping issue still exists.

I don’t… I wish it worked correctly on the latest release version (and, ideally, all future release versions).

Just go to the Play Store settings and turn off auto-updates.

Wow, how did I not think to go into the Play Store itself? I think you just saved the day bud. Now the question is what apk will I need to make myself happy again. Thank you!

Did you ever get anywhere with this? I have what appears to be a similar issue: during playback of some files, they will jump forward 1 to 15 minutes with only a pixelated-distortion effect.

Don’t have the link now but a thread about exoplayer suggested turning off all surround sound formats, this seemed to help for a while but not long. Clearing cache, uninstalling etc also not helped.
