Android TV - Unable to view Live TV & DVR - Network error

Server Version#: 1.20.4.3517
Player Version#: 8.8.2.21525
Tuner Make/Model: HAUPPAUGE 3875199 WinTV-quadHD PCIe TV Receiver
Guide/Lineup name: Spanish TV
Using XMLTV?: I don´t know what this is
Channel number/Name: All channels

Hi guys,

I connect to my server remotely. It has been working absolutely fine until recently where it has started to fail.

Browsing for any channel will show an network error message in the screen and channel will not load.

All my other devices - iPad, iPhone, Android Phone, Windows Client and web app load the channels absolutely fine.

I can still open the web app with chrome on my computer and chromecast to the nvidia shield fine. if I try the same from my phone it fails with the same network error message

I have attached both client and server logs right after replicating the issuelogging.txt (3.3 MB) (File removed)

Could you help here please?

Regards,
Javier

I’ve tested today after receiving an Server update last night. Also updated the Android TV app (even though I believe it was also a server side update, which will be irrelevant as I only use the nVidia shield as client)

It is still failing. Anything you could comment here guys?

Got a new server update yesterday I believe.

Issue remains.

Just wanted to ask - is there any better place to get support? Am I missing anything obvious and that is why I am not getting any replies? Any way of flagging this issue to dev?

Hi I just got Plex Pass last night and today noticed live TV was giving me and error. I came here and saw your post. It sounds like similar setup and issues. I have Nvidia Shield Pro as a client also, my server is FreeNAS, and tuner is an HD Homerun. I don’t get a specific network error, just general error. If I find anything out I’ll post back here.

I uninstalled and re-installed Plex on the Nvidia Shield and all seems to be working ok now.

And that did it!!

Thank you very, very much! I never thought of uninstalling/reinstalling the app! But that did the trick!

Well, it wasn’t uninstalling as the nVidia Shield didn’t allow - But reverted the app to the initial state and update it again.

So happy it is back to normal!

Thank you very, very much @wgaryjanes_gmail_com!!- You’ve made my day!

I’ve done this twice now, and the issue remains.

I too have nvidia shield pro, and hd homerun primes. The issue seems to happen on local channels. Where every other device, my iphone, roku devices, web client, etc. all work just fine. It is intermittent too.

What steps did you guys take to “uninstall/reinstall” the client? I will try to follow those same steps.

Here is what I did:

From the Nvidia Shield Pro Home

Go to settings, top right

Under settings go to Apps under the general settings

Plex may show under recent apps, if not go to see all apps

Scroll down to Plex

Click on uninstall, and uninstall the app

After Plex uninstalls, restart the Nvidia Shield

From the Nvidia Shield Pro Home

Go to Apps - top left under search

Find and re-install Plex.

I had to reconfirm a 4 digit code, which took two tries, the second code worked. Not sure if that was related, or just a fluke. Good luck.

I did something similar

  • Get to the App under my App list
  • I deleted all cache about the App
  • Selected Uninstall (or revert the app to factory - I cannot remember)
  • Reboot Shield
  • Install/Update the app again
  • On first login it also asked me to confirm account by 4 digit code - Mine was successful on first attempt

And it was all working again

I hope this helps!

Thanks! I never restarted the shield in my attempts, and so maybe something was still cached. I never had to re-add the sheild to my acct. (activation code) so I am betting I never fully uninstalled it. But my steps were basically the same. I will give that a try and report back if I continue seeing it.

Thanks again!!

Yeah, I’ve seen something similar with the Shield that after so many updates Plex becomes unstable, an uninstall and re-install fixes the issues.
