I have been enjoying my Plex set up, but I found my local AMV channel to be kinda disappointing. I was just using Home Videos for the longest time. So I had some free time today and I whipped up a scanner that ran my media against animemusicvideos.org. I figured maybe someone would get something out of this endeavor (or maybe not, lol), so I'm uploading it here.

Plex call Scanner something presenting the files indication the ep number and season number (and optionally temp title) and is split between movie scanner and series scanner (but one file could do both like my Absolute Series Scanner)…
it is a nice custom metadata agent for the purpose you wrote it for, but not a scanner, hence many people looking for agents would probably miss it…
Might have to give this a try. Is there any recommended naming format for files? Or does it expect the original file names that are on AMV.org?
It uses http://www.animemusicvideos.org to search them so same title as in there i guess
There is a google search so might handle slight changes in filenames
So trying this out and it is not terribly good. Not really your fault as the music videos frequently have poor naming or there are just too many that use the same song, etc. Maybe easiest would be if you could just embed the AMV.org ID into the title?

For the above video the original filename is just “Box Tops The Letter.AVI”. Pretty generic. When I try to name it that and add it to the folder at the root of the library it matches some Naruto video. I tried to rename it “Nunchuck - Box Tops The Letter.AVI” to get it to match the creator, but didn’t help. (Also once it has matched it doesn’t seem to try to rematch even if I change the filename, I have to blow away and recreate the library.) I tried to put it in a folder named “5 Centimeters per Second” and that really confused it. Anyway what I’m getting at is it could be useful if you could add a tag to force a match, such as “Nunchuck - Box Tops The Letter [amv-140988].avi” or something similar. Basically you could make it so you could name it whatever the heck you want and it would always match as long as you have the tag. ZeroQI has done this kind of tagging in his anime scanner/agent and it works very well. I’m not sure if that is at the scanner or agent level though and if you could alter yours to do something similar.
Also any way to make this use folders of some kind? Perhaps have it be a TV agent rather than Movie? Having everything just dropped in there like a home video folder would get cumbersome with 100s of videos. Anyway to allow putting the AMV in folders by something like series and then have it appear in Plex under the series name?
