No Metadata found for Music Video files, despite being on themoviedb.org

Server Version#:1.28.2.6151

So, I have created a content folder, called ‘Music-Video’ and have created a new Library called ‘Music Videos’ and set it to type ‘Movies’. I have 47 .mp4 files which are direct rips of my Music DVDs (mostly live gigs etc) all of which are official releases. As an example, ‘Dragonforce - In The Line of Fire’, which is found easily on themoviedb.org when manually searching their catalog. However, none of my music files are being recognised by Plex and no metadata is being scraped. All files show as just their filename with no box-art.

The scanner for this Library is set to ‘Plex Video Files Scanner’ and the Agent is set to ‘The Movie Database’.

I have no idea what I’m doing wrong and I can’t find any solution to this from searching. Any help, much appreciated.

Cheers, Jay

I haven’t used the Video Files Scanner at all, so I won’t be able to offer much help, but I think it applies to all of Plex’s scanners that the organizing and naming of the files is extremely important for Plex’s ability to identify your files and find the correct match.

This guide explains how to organize and name movie files. I would start there, and I would especially recommend following the idea of putting the tmdb number in the filename, as described:

https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-movie-media-files/

That, was a very useful reply. I had no idea about the tmdb and imdb codes in filenames. This should help massively, thank you. Out of interest, my Music-Videos library was set to use Video Files Scanner, I didn’t actively choose it (not that I recall anyway). What is the recommended setting for these two options, (Scanner and Agent)?.

Thanks again for the help,
Jay
