Anime with speical characters in name are not recognized every week

Server Version#: 1.19.1.2645

some japanese anime shows, and english ones, use : or? or " in the name.
windows does not allow creating folders with those character.

after manually fixing the match for the first episode, i would expect plex to be able to use the existing metadata for that show.
however, each week i need to manually match each episode for those shows.

is there no way to tell plex to not match from scratch for each episode but to use the folder match for the show?

thanks.

Plex doesn’t use episodes to match an entire series. It will use the folder name and structure.

We need more info.
What is the show?
What is the folder name and structure of the show?
ex…

One Tree Hill (2003) <--Folder
   Season 01 <--Folder
      One Tree Hill (2003) - s01e01 - Pilot.mp4 <--Episode
   Season 02 <--Folder
      One Tree Hill (2003) - s02e01 - The Desperate Kingdom of Love.mp4 <--Episode

show name: motherland: selam fort
folder: motherland- salem fort
show name: The 8th Son? Are You Kidding Me?
folder: The 8th Son Are You Kidding Me
show name: sing “yesterday” to me
folder sing yesterday to me

however, this is not what i meant.
emby sucks, and i do not like using it, however, it have 1 thing it is better then plex.
i can create a folder name 99
add files s01e01 s01e02
match this folder with Brooklyn 99
from this moment, no matter what i add to this folder, as long as it has the same name, it will automatically know it is Brooklyn 99 and will not try to rematch every file i add.

not so plex.
each file i add, it tries to rematch it, even though the folder is already known, and there are previous episodes and i will have to manually go in and fix the match.

I would rename motherland- salem fort to motherland - salem fort or motherland salem fort ← official way
I also always add the year of the series but some may argue that point.

Are you sure? At the top level of the series(where all season posters are displayed) do you see Match or Fix Match ?
More info on match/fix match.
https://support.plex.tv/articles/201018497-fix-match-match/

  1. this is a single fix for one issue, not the underlining one.
  2. most definitely. it has fix match, especially as on manual fix you have to do it on the main unknown root folder and not on the individual episode.

Are you using Sonarr to import your episodes?

You shouldn’t have an issue. If the series is match already then every episode added should add correctly.
Case in point.

Though I wouldn’t recommend this naming…but it can be done…

But, let sit everything aside… First we really need to know your naming convention, exactly what it is.

My example was…

One Tree Hill (2003) <--Folder
   Season 01 <--Folder
      One Tree Hill (2003) - s01e01 - Pilot.mp4 <--Episode
   Season 02 <--Folder
      One Tree Hill (2003) - s02e01 - The Desperate Kingdom of Love.mp4 <--Episode

yes, my structure is exactly like this.
i use the S01E01
and specials go under Specials folder.

Sonarr is very good at creating those structures automatically for use in Plex…

From the description above, it looks like you have subfolders for every episode
That won’t work.

absolutely not.
show name - folder
season number - folder
episodes - files

i do not even believe sonarr has the ability to create a folder for each episode.
