I don’t know why, but the last weeks/months everytime when I add a new serie Plex seems to mess up the matchmaking
Which of course can happen but it getting really really annoying.
Basically what happens is:
I extract files to a folder based on the torrent label.
eg:
downloads\completed\showname
then plex can’t match the showname… which can happen so I match it manually.
Then a week later a new episode is places in that same subfolder and Plex again matched (only that new episode) wrong.
Previously once you matched a folder to a show it just worked and I don’t have to rematch it every time.
Now this week I decided to catch up on 2 shows as Netflix pulled it out of their library so I download Season 01 from show_A and Season 03 from show_B and get this as structure:
Eventhough the folders are properly named
Aquarius.US.S01.720p.HDTV.x264-Scene
Defiance.S03.720p.HDTV.x264-Scene
Plex throws both folders into 1 hoarders labeled show and only refers to the “completed” folder as main folder, not to each individual folder.
As a result I can’t rematch each folder individually.
Did things change on how Plex matches files?
If so… what did? as it getting messier and messier… which makes it less fun to use plex.
This is the basic format I us for all my TV shows and I almost never have any problems with Plex correctly naming my shows.
TV Shows <— The library points here
---------TV Show Name (Year first aired if needed) <— This folder holds the season folders
------------------Season 01 <— This folder holds all the episodes for season 01
-------------------------ShowName - s01e01 - Episode Name.ext
-------------------------ShowName - s01e02 - Episode Name.ext
-------------------------And so on for the rest of season 01
------------------Season 02 <— This folder holds all the episodes for season 02
-------------------------ShowName - s02e01 - Episode Name.ext
-------------------------ShowName - s02e02 - Episode Name.ext
-------------------------And so on for the rest of season 02
------------------Season 03 <— This folder holds all the episodes for season 03
-------------------------ShowName - s03e01 - Episode Name.ext
-------------------------ShowName - s03e02 - Episode Name.ext
-------------------------And so on for the rest of season 03
Note: The year after the show name is only normally needed or desired if there is more that one show with exactly the same name. Check http://thetvdb.com/ if you are not sure and match exactly the name used there.
There are naming methods other than the above that work but this does work 99.9% of the time.
If you are going to use Plex it is best to use the proper naming conventions so Plex makes the best match possible. Trying to force Plex to use other naming methods is just asking for frustration.
One more thing is that if you deviate from the Plex conventions it may have worked in the past and/or it may work in the future but there is no guarantee that it will always work. Both Plex’s parsing and The TVDB’s database work best with namings that conform to the standards and either may change in such a way the non-conforming namings suddenly stop working.
