Hi team,
I recently started setting up my Plex so my family could access our library also from their homes.
I did so by using “invite home users”. Now I realized that everyone is able to see each others accounts when logging in. Due to jealous reactions I would like to prevent others seeing who else has access.
Is there any way to do so?
Managed users are profiles on the main account login. Like Netflix, you must provide the other person with the login details, and then choose the account you want to watch under. Unless you use a PIN on the profile, anyone can log in as anyone else’s profile.
HOME users are similar, but each person has their own account and password to log in. However, once logged in, your account is now a sub-profile of the master account. This means that anyone else that is a HOME user in the account, or MANAGED user, can swap over to the profile of anyone else. You can protect profiles with a PIN here as well, but you will still technically be able to log into the account of another person without using their username/password, just the PIN. Extremely unsafe unless you trust the person completely. You can only belong to one HOME at a time, and it basically will turn anyone’s personal account into a profile on one master account.
Friends are the most common. You can invite a friend to be able to view the libraries you share with that friend. They log into their own account, and will be able to see your libraries. There won’t be any profiles of any other person unless they make their OWN local profiles for themselves. Using this, your friends do not gain any benefits of YOU owning a Plex pass (intro skip, DVR access, free use of mobile Plex apps, etc) unless they are a plex pass themselves.
You might want to ask all your family to get an account, then invite those accounts as friends.
If you want them to have the plex pass features, well… They have to be HOME users and must use the profiles system. Per device, you can set it to automatically log into a specific profile without seeing the profile screen, but that requires logging in as the admin and changing a setting (no seriously, why do you need to log in as admin to check the “automatically log me in on this device” button?), but they would at any time be able to back out and see the profile list of users without you stopping them.
