For the life of me I can not get the correct IMDB match to work even with using the search. The media in question is “National Geographic: Inside 9/11” . I have tried it every way possible and it keeps matching to “National Geographic: Air Force One” . My folder name is " National Geographic Inside 9/11 (2004) " and inside that folder is " National Geographic Inside 9/11 (2004) - pt1 and National Geographic Inside 9/11 (2004) - pt2 " . Has anyone else had an issue like this with National Geographic ?

Is this the series you’re trying to match?

If so, you’ll need to place it in a TV Shows-type library and name it like:

/TV Shows    <--- Root of your TV Shows library, name does not matter
    /Inside 9/11 (2005)
        /Season 01
            Inside 9/11 (2005) - S01E01 - Optional Episode Name.ext
            Inside 9/11 (2005) - S01E02 - Optional Episode Name.ext
            ...

This is because both metadata providers for series (Plex doesn’t use IMDB for this) have it:

  • Named as just “Inside 9/11.”
  • Classified as a series.
  • Show the first aired year as 2005.

Won’t work, cannot have “/” characters in file names. Would have to substitute another character, or simply leave a space there for the title. I’d suggest a dash “-” character, but a space would probably work just as well.

If Plex still cannot find it via the name, have you tried manually selecting the TVDB/TMDB ID of the show? For TMDB, you’d type tmdb-17889 into the title in the search bar of the match/fix match dialogue box.

Yeah, I likely should have left those out. I left them in because they mentioned them existing in their filenames already. If they do remove them they should not be substituted with another character though, just removed.

My main point really was that, for this particular item, it must be placed in a TV Shows-type library.

I use dashes in place of a lot of special characters myself. I don’t think I have any with a slash in it, but I didn’t think a dash would ruin the search terms enough. I have no problems with Plex identifying my shows, as long as I use a name that - y’know - exists on TVDB/TMDB.
