So I own the plex server that’s located at my house and I have shared my libraries with my mom that lives in another home. If I’m at her house, is there a quick user switch between her shared account and my login? Or do I have to totally log her out then login using my account creds? I’d like to see my watched history and not hers, nor impact her history. I’ve read the Plex user mgmt articles and looked here for solutions but surprisingly didn’t see anything relevant. Am I just missing something?
Yes, you will have to log her out before you sign in with your own account
The fast user switching is only for people part of a Plex home

why not just make your mom a Home User so you can easily switch in both places.
Let me look into that. I think initially I wasn’t around to help her and sending an invite was easiest. Will this work between homes? I just want to make sure what I watch at my house is reflected at her house and vice versa.
The feature is intended for people who live in the same house but there’s nothing to stop you from doing it
Under manage library access go to your moms account here and click the home button
The only drawback is that you’ll probably want to create a pin. If you don’t, your mom or anyone with access to that device can log into your account
Instead of Plex opening to the homepage it will open a user selection screen so you can pick what account you want to log in with
You can disable that by selecting “automatically sign in” but you would have to disable that in the settings every time you went over to your moms house before you could log in
It’s still better than having to sign in and out of completely different accounts every time
It works great. On a rare occasion you might need to log them back in, but I can count on one hand the amount of times I have had to do that to my parents 3 TVs in the last 6 or so years, so it’s not a hindrance at all.
This sounds perfect. I unfortunately lost my access to my server while I’m away so I will have to check this out when I’m able to in a couple days. I set this up for her a couple years ago and never looked back. Until I realized she’s getting older and I will be spending more time at her residence and needed to make this easier.
I’ll respond back after I take a look. I appreciate your quick advice @don.alcombright and @JaysPlex
@don.alcombright @JaysPlex this was simple to set up and working perfectly. I did add a pin just to make sure my account isn’t misused (they both are indicated by “M”). Thanks again!
glad it worked out!
