Hello,
After much research, experimentation and realizing I’m completely out of my depth, I’m posting for the most specific help I can find here on the forums. Haven’t even had luck with phone calls at this point! So that led me to here.
I’m running my Plex Media Server off of a MacBook Pro using Spectrum Internet services through a Sagemcom F@st 5260 Router and NordVPN. Of course, accessing my media on the MacBook, iMac, Roku, Asus Tablet and iPhone hasn’t been an issue when within my wi-fi network.
Of course, problem is remote access, which I’m sure many of you are more than familiar with here.
(insert womp-womp noise here)
This doesn’t only concern accessing my own stuff, but the fact that my friends can’t access my server at all. One friend in particular is running her Plex app through Opera TV and can see her library no problem, but mine won’t even show up as an option. However, we’re both friends according to our servers, shared libraries and all. So what gives?
Now I’ve been looking up and down concerning doing a port forward or workaround on my router but haven’t discovered any tips or instructions that match the router or software I’m using. It’s been a nightmare. Whether I’m looking for solutions regarding configuring the router, advanced settings on my VPN service or Plex itself- it isn’t long before I’m completely lost.
TL;DR: I’m clueless. I’d say I’m more technically savvy than the average person, but I’m wading into some specific IT territory here. Can someone give me some direction that’s straight forward for a layperson?
