This started a month or so ago but the plex icon for the plex forms app just keeps getting smaller and smaller. Incrementally over time. It has been entertaining to watch. Have been waiting for it to just disappear but it hasn’t.
Their marketing team came up with a Halloween trick… ENJOY!
There is no Plex forums app.
Never seen it in the store. Chrome does have a feature where it can turn a WebPage into an “app”. It’s basically just the webpage without the URL bar up top. Could you have done this? If so, that’s a Chrome thing. I have no idea how that actually works and Plex has no control over that icon.
I don’t recall doing that but doesn’t mean that isn’t possible. Just tried that with Nvidia forums and the app icon it creates looks like this and when you go the app info it shows chrome as the app. So it’s definitely not that. Maybe an app a 3rd party made that has been discontinued or removed from play store but still working on my phone. Althought it’s icon is getting smaller ha.
Maybe remove and put back the Plex forum. For me, I see this.
It could also be whatever theme you are running on your device.
So did you find the app? It is this way in the app drawer so removing and adding again didn’t change anything. It’s also been running the same thing for a year since I owed the pixel 6 xl. Didn’t start getting incrementally smaller until the last 1-2 months. It doesn’t matter really. Just was interesting. It was the full circle and has been getting smaller and smaller ever so slightly for weeks now.
I couldn’t find the app in the store. I’ve never seen it there. What I showed was using Chrome’s “Install App” option. This is something Chrome allows depending on how the website is made. It’s not a real app, it’s still just Chrome. I don’t normally use this, I just book mark the forum page and find it that way. I’ll leave it for a while to see if I can reproduce, it sounds kind of fun to see that. But again, that icon on your home screen is not something we control.
interesting. when you hold down on the icon and go to info does it state that it is a chrome app?mine shows the shield tv one i created with that process as chrome but doesn’t for plex forum. But your icon looks like mine does so i assume that is something i must have done.
also shieldtv doesn’t show up in my app drawer but the plex forums does.
The app doesn’t say Chrome. It looks like a regular app, but there is no link back to the appstore. For other website Chrome has a “Add to desktop” option. These also look the same. Might be dependent on the OS and the device.
interesting well i guess you uncovered what i did. i could delete it then and re-add it but i am more interested in seeing how small it can go before it disappears entirely. will update if it ever does.
