Any limitations on AppleTV3 formats?

Hi there

 

I'm debating on something that will allow me to play videos with Plex, & am trying to decide between a Samsung player & AppleTV3. Is there any limitations with the ATV3, ie Will I still be able to play MKVs (presuming it bi-passes iTunes?)? Is there any way of connecting a Blu-Ray player to it (I've read it's possible to do so to my Samsung telly from an external PC Blu-Ray via USB)?

 

I'd probably end up getting a Samsung player, but I'm tempted by the portability of the ATV3, as well as the fact I'd be able to view PDFs, CBRs, etc. with AirPlay.
