Any progress on Satellite? Other options for live foreign TV?

The Plex help page on community supported tuners says “Satellite: Currently we do not have Satellite support. It’s something we are investigating, but there are some issues we will need to overcome, so likely you will run into issues with Satellite”.

I would like to add live and recorded TV, but unless there are any other options I do not yet know about, Satellite is my only choice as I live in Spain and want UK TV.

I only want the main BBC/ITV/C4 etc freeview channels, so the encryption i assume would be on SKY premium channels would not be an issue. I currently have a SKY HD+ box, but I want Live TV and DVR enough to buy new hardware if needed.

What I would like to know is the state of play on ‘we are investigating’. Is it Plex investigating or is it this community? Does anybody know where it is at, what the issues to overcome are, and what Satellite connected hardware I should be looking for to at least maximise whatever chance there is of connection?

Any insight gratefully received.

Not sure if you own DVBLogic software but if you do you can use that software to setup your tuners and pipe them in to Plex. Unfortunately they shut down so I am not sure if someone has similar software. If your receiver supports m3u, then you could pipe that in to xTeve which Plex can connect to as a tuner.

thanks for the reply. interesting stuff. i didn’t know about xteve and reading up on this it may be possible to consider iptv to get the uk channels, a potentially easier approach than the satellite box. thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

No problem, keep me posted what you find out.
