Any software or device that allows HEVC decoding and passes through digital audio???

Hi all,

I’m getting really frustrated trying to find some sort of Plex client solution that allows for client-side HVEC decoding as well as 5.1+ Dolby Digital and DTS pass through.

I’ve tried:
Web client: no HVEC from any browser I’ve tried, though does support direct stream digital for audio.
Windows 10 Store client: no HVEC, but will pass through audio.
Windows 10 native app: Supports HVEC but no digital audio.
Amazon Fire TV (Gen 3): Audio is fine, but won’t do native HVEC (even though it’s supported in the hardware).
Android OS through SONY XBR-850 TV: Neither digital audio or HVEC decoding.

Note: I’ve got an nVidia GTX960 graphics card with the latest drivers, and I’m running Windows 10 FCE (v1709) x64.

Any suggestions? Other devices? Other software? Install local codecs?

Thanks,

Joe

The Sony should be able to playback DTS and the other audio codecs… however it appears Android TV isn’t telling that to Plex. You might have some luck when using the native Videos app and the Plex DLNA server instead.

Device: nVidia Shield

PC-based: Plex Media Player. You only need to tell the app to activate ‘Bitstreaming’.

  1. put PMP into its full screen mode

  2. click/select your user name. The Settings are reachable beneath it.
    Audio
    Device Type = HDMI
Channels = whatever your setup is
Underneath are all the audio formats listed which PMP can pass through.
Tick every format your AVR can decode.
