Any way to disable audio normalization?

Like the title, is there any way to disable audio normalization on the Plex server? I don’t see any options for it other than for the web player. I use the Plex app on a Roku and the app has no settings so I want to find a global setting if I can. I want to keep transcoding on as I have media with HD audio that my TV doesn’t like but the normalization really sucks. I can hear Plex stepping the audio volume up and down through out the show. Its not a gradual change, it’s one volume and then instantly another volume an it’s driving me nuts.

That’s not Plex doing it.
Look in the settings of either your TV (dynamics compression, Night mode, dialog clarification etc.)
or the Roku.

Nope, it’s Plex. If I force direct streaming it sounds perfect. If I set it to auto or anything that causes transcoding for the audio, you can can the volume stepping. My TV does support some of the settings you mentioned above but they are all off due to the TV disabling the EQ settings as you can’t have them both on. I have tested with everything off on the TV and as soon as the audio starts transcoding, you can hear it stepping the volume. I can replicate this issue on a completely different TV that has a Plex app. I can “fix” this in the web player by disabling “Normalize Multi-channel Audio” in the settings for the web player but this setting is only for the web player. What I need is that setting for the Roku app.

FYI, I would just force direct streaming but I have a lot of files that only have HD audio that my TV doesn’t like that requires transcoding. I also use transcoding to upscale 720p to native so it doesn’t look all “blocky” on my TV.

In the process of trial and error, I’m going to replicate my media share to another NAS (in case something goes wrong) and try to run Tdarr across it to find and add a default stereo downmix track to anything with a 5.1 or higher audio track. If this works, and if I can keep the video transcoding, all of this mess would be fixed. Just sucks that Plex doesn’t have any audio transcoding options for the Roku app.
